Your most surprisingly awesome game ever!

Dead Space is one of the most recent, i got it cheap from a supermarket a day after release, like Sinny said it brought back memories of the real RE's, Edge of the seat tension. Batman was also very impressive which i didnt expect. Cant really think of anything from the last gen (PS2).

From the PS1 gen i'd say Vandal Hearts, i got it from some sunday market for about £20, only picked it up because it looked like a good turn based strategy game which im a fan of, i loved it. Then off the back of that comes my all time Fav game series and biggest suprise..... Suikoden. On the back of the manual for Vandal Hearts was a Suikoden promo (both being Konami), so i looked thorugh my old magazines (i used to keep them all back then) and i saw it was a RPG which was my new fav genre after FFVII. So off i go back to the same Sunday market and they have it for £15, i buy it, complete it, complete it again with all characters and never look back.

Both Riddick Games were better than I thought they would be, especially the "how NOT to escape from Butcher Bay" bit at the beginning of the first.

I actually got the first one on direct2drive from fileplanet and completely forgot about it until I read your post lol. Might download it again and have another crack at it. I remember it being quite scary when you initially get out of the prison and into the passages with the weird zombie things chasing you.

Whoever mentioned giants: citizen kabuto also gets my thumbs up. Such a good game with really unique gameplay and style. Still to this day I've not really played anything similar to it, especially the base building parts.

suikoden is worth a lot of money now. i hope you kept your in mint condition! :D

i'll also second what you said. both vandal hearts and suikoden come both just after ff7 in awesomeness. i loved SK1 and SK2. both brilliant games.

collecting all 108 stars was good fun. damn i miss the ps1 rpg days. :(

Firstly dynasty warriors 3 spent so long just finding secret weapons and maxing all the characters it was awesome.

Command and conquor on the n64 again didnt even know it was on the pc but it led me to generals which i wasted all my time playing loved it online. :D

Warcraft 3 and the frozen throne, i have actually just dug these out and im really enjoying the campaign again but use to love playing online with my mate and some of the custom maps. :p

guildwars when it first came out was my first mmo and i liked how it was play friendly and not a grind. Loved gvg with a good group we were casual but could reach the top couple of hundred in ranking. Plus the chest running and stuff was always hilarious. 8 of you just legging it for the chests and watching as your mates get caught while you just run past and thank god it was not you. lol. :D

Fallout 3. Although the reviews were high I was quite sceptical but as it turned out it was probably the most enjoyable PC gaming experience ever.

I'm playing Painkiller at the moment. Dated and a bit arcady but a good laugh and bargain for under a fiver .. nice one Steam :)

Soldiers Heroes of WW2. I bought this whilst I was at the height of my WW2 phase, thinking it was going to be similar to Commandoes. It does have some similarities but I was completely blown away by this game in its attention to detail and well thought out and authentic levels. The amusing german soldiers comments was a bonus. It took the Commandoes graphical style and signifcantly improved upon it and put a different takle on strategy on top of it.

While I'm at it I was also mention Medal of Honour Allied Assault, mainly for the unexpected awesomeness of the multiplayer.

Republic Commando was an awful lot better than I expected too. Great atmosphere and some really good voice acting. I remember laughing out loud at one of my AI squad when I was knocked unconscious for the fifth time in a row in a particular level, and heard, in that dry, australian clone accent "Aw, there he goes again!"

Guild Wars Prophecies

I initially avoided it because I thought it would be a sub par game if it didnt have a monthly sub. Then my brother bought it, so he let me use his account and WOW! It was wonderful, amazingly realized world, great and friendly community, I got to know my guild members very well and I looked forward to doing quests with them.

I played prophecies to death, explored everything and did most of the quests, I didnt play factions but I did play nightfall and it did recapture some of the magic but I had lost my guildies and I didnt feel like making new aquaintances all over again. I actually did most of the quests with henchmen, which was a challenge to say the least.

Now I'm eagerly awaiting guild wars 2, I havent looked at many of the preview videos or read the forums, I just want it to be totally fresh when I get the game. I have seen the elementalist and warrior moves videos, and I think they could have had totally new moves instead of rehashes.

I did exactly the same. I was skeptical, my brother bought it, he didn't play it much and i started giving it a go and eventually took over the account and sunk maybe over 10000 hours into the game by the end of EotN.

Yeah i have, the book has a couple of marks but nothing you wouldnt expect. I loved Suikoden 2 as well, probably better than 1, unfortunatley i dont have that. A mate of mine bought it from ebay about 3-4 years back for £40 i oppted out, it now goes for £90+, gutted. I never got to play 3 as its NTSC only and i still cant find a good PS2 emulator.

Screamer, Screamer Rally (I think) and Screamer 2

Bought S2 first for a quid and then found the others for similar amounts. Best pc racing games ever! Spent about a gazillion hours playing when I was growing up and still play S2 sometimes now even though I've far more superior racing games!

got a few, mostly the obvious ones though :)

stalker - for the atmosphere - bought it cheap online and had it 9 months before i played it

mass effect - for the storyline

championship manager 1,
x3 terran conflict,
port royale 2 - for the sheer longevity of each.

minor nod to fallout 3 as i was expecting great things anyway
