Hello

I was wondering if you would consider the new Apple TV for your HTPC as its just £99

whats your opinion on this?

It seems it doesn't benefit UK customers as much as US, I would love to see sky player, iplayer etc..

Why not buy something like western digital media player etc

Much more versatile, apple tv just seems a total gimmick ripped off from other ideas, and poorly implemented ie no lessons learnt from what the market really wants.

No 1080p from what i have read, limited file formats, expensive films, missing some kind of browser.

You can get near enough the same device now, for about the £30 mark. So only a idiot would pay £99, if that's what the uk price will be.

Its overpriced rubbish from apple. For under £90 get a AC Ryan PlayonHD mini does everything ! or if you have more get a ps3 and then even more get a htpc.

The apple tv is limited and tied down and totally useless in the uk as we dont have netflix.

Until they release plug ins and allow iPlayer / Sky / 40D then it's dead to me.

Once again Apple could have produced something brilliant, instead we get mediocre. I sold my last AppleTV expecting the update to bring something new, instead we got ooooooooold - 720p only ! WTF??

Steve Jobs is losing it big time if he thinks that this is cutting edge. Apple were once great innovators and produced great products, now they dont really innovate at all and produce nice-ish products.

Yes I love my MacBook Pro and my Iphone. Will I spend another £1200 on a laptop, I am not so sure.

I think you guys are missing the point.

It's a fit and forget bit of hardware that allow Apple to rent/sell more content through the iTunes store. It's not in their interests to support FLAC and MKV, neither of which are used commercially.

1080p missing, yeah it'a a bit of a shame. I suspect the hardware is up to the task, however the content isn't 1080p and the bandwidth increase over 720p makes streaming it pretty pointless at the moment.

What point are we missing?

"It's a fit and forget bit of hardware that allow Apple to rent/sell more content through the iTunes store."

Why is it massively overpriced then? surly it should be subsidised if the main purpose is to make more money off you ie sky box, virgin box etc

But instead of subsidising it, they are inflating to price by at least 200%, of what other items you can get off the market, that have the same capabilities.

For £100 i would expect a lot more hardware and functionality. As it is, it's just another apple rip off.

That's kind of a good point, but it makes it sound like Apple are selling the customer what Apple decides the customer should have.

Other manufacturers sell the customer what the customer wants. Don't get me wrong, many Itunes users will love to watch their 'Shows' on the big screen, but I've got a 50" screen and I want high quality media at a fair price.

Lovefilm it is then!

Can you get sky player like on the xbox on the revo pc? and how can you stream from another pc with the revo pc?

Sorry I'm new to all this.

Your exactly the type of person apple are looking for;)

Yes the revo pc is a full pc, anything you can do on a normal pc you can do on that.

I think the problem with this and many other Apple devices is the companies ethos has changed. 10 years ago apple made devices to create beautiful medai content on. They controlled both the hardware and the software so that they could deliver robust and reliable high end platforms, and made a reputation doing so. Now apple make hardware, mainly for consuming media on (except they are selective what media you can consume). yet they still charge a premium for their products. No longer are they the first choice of the graphics professional, the pro photographer or the high end video editor. Now they are the consumer choice of people who buy North face Jackets and Henleys T-shirts. No longer are their devices Made in California, they are branded Designed in California which shows their shift from niche high end hardware to consumer blingware. Apple is now more about Apple and less about its consumers and unfortunately its arrogance has grown too. Now it decides what it thinks you should have, not what you think you need and so we believe the hype (me included), except every so often we realise the king has no new clothes, the new Apple TV being a case in point. Hardware wise - it sux, software wise - it sux, price wise it deinitely sux. Will it sell ? Probably, because its is an apple device and we all know everything that is
Apple is L337. Do they care that they have just annoyed all of the original die hard Apple TV fans.. do they hell. For every one of them that turns it back on Apple, there are 20 new Fanbois waiting to take their place, who will think that the new 'hockey puck' is amazing. Good Luck Apple

Me thinks your missing the point its an overpriced pos aimed at gullable apple fans that dont know there arse from their elbow.
There are at least 5 other products on the market that are there same price or cheaper and do more!
But I guess my point stands from above that its got an apple logo on it so its amazing...
