Anyone looking for a new decent trolley jack for not a lot of money?

I went to Halfords yesterday to pick up a few service items, and they have on offer their 2.25 Tonne Speedylift Trolley Jack - normally £79.99 now £39.99 and £37.99 with a Trade Card.

Very cheap and does the job well!

I have one of these - this appears to be a recurring offer.

Good jack, has been reliable and is relatively low profile. However, be warned, it's quite heavy.

Looks ok, think I'd rather have a meatier looking one myself.

It appears to be a very solidly built jack. Certainly get your money's worth in weight!

The head doesn't look all that big and the handle looks thin...but the rest of it does look fine, yeah. :)

I usually use one of these (normally the black one as it's a quick lift and has a better head than the red one)

That pic doesn't really do it just, the jack is quite big and heavy, the size of it makes the head appear small and the handle thin where in reality it's very sturdy.

Compared to the pic I just put into my last post? ;)

Those heads and handles are big, the handles are part of the jack too, not a remove and replace for jack and release.

I'd certainly be very tempted by the Halfords one though if I needed a new jack. :) The larger ones do cost a lot more (from MachineMart etc.).

The head isn't so large no, but the handle is certainly large enough, yes it's removable, but that just means I don't have to waste a load of garage space to put something 6ft tall somewhere it might not be used for months. ;)

Only negative point is that it doesn't come with a carrying case, but it's so bloody heavy you don't want to carry it anywhere!

Haha, true, luckily they aren't 6ft tall and we have the space. :p
I dislike the idea of removable handles, they just feel flimsy on all of the smaller jacks we have...but that could well be due to the over all size of those jacks and their handles. As I say, if I was after a new one I'd probably get one (I might anyway) as the other ones I prefer are more like £100...but they are quick lift which that doesn't state if it is or not.

The halfords one is quick-lift yes.

Can someone confirm what the entry height for the jack is? Really need to get a jack at some point.

Not got the info to hand, but it (just) fits under my 330d, but won't fit under my LCR.

costco jacks > all

approx £60

low entry 3 ton lift capacity and built to last friend of mine has been using 2 of these in his tyre fitting shop for the last year and they still work as new

I paid £40 for one of these earlier this year with no mark down. Gotta put the MX5 on bricks to get it under the car as it's a 4x4 jack but it goes pretty high and seems very stable.

This one I take it?

The operating range is given as 150 to 520mm which would suggest that the entry height isn't much lower. That is going to be too high for many cars.

My current Halfords trolley jack has an entry height of 120mm which is too high for my Saab 900 let alone the Elise, and when I was last in Halfords looking for something lower all of the jacks on display had a higher entry height.

I eventually bought a proper low entry jack from Machine Mart.

Picked up one of these a few weeks ago as using the emergency jack is time consuming, effort and not to mention totally *****!

Can't go wrong for the basic home mechanic, makes getting the car on stands very quick. Couldn't get it under the front end of the car (Clio 182) as it's quite low but no problems getting it under the sides or in at the back.

Can't fault it, very sturdy and for £40 can't really go wrong.
