Looking for an adapter so I can try out my Dad's Nikkor 50mm 1:1.2 on my 40D.

Anyone know the best place to get a cheap one other than eBay?

Doubt you'll get one other than eBay! I know theres Canon>Nikon, so assuming there's the other way around - not looked myself.

I think you'll probably find that the adapters sold by other retailers are sourced from pretty much the same places as those sold on E-bay.

Do a search on Google for "nikon to eos adapter" to see. The cheaper ones tend to be in the £20 to £30 bracket. You can get really high quality ones from Novoflex which cost over £100!

I've not got one so I cannot give any opinion as to quality, but I'm sure if you wait a couple of hours for the people who frequent this subforum to come in from work you'll probably get a recommendation.

Err...I don't think there is one?

There is, the F mount is pretty easy to convert to EF/EF-S. The reverse is, afaik, slightly harder, but pretty much every system has an F mount adapter for it—a combination of the mount's simplicity and the fact that it's been unchanged for 40-odd years (so there are zillions of cheap lenses to pick up for it) makes it a desirable prospect.

Lots of people use the 14-24 on their Canon bodies, for example :)

The registration distance between the sensor and lens flange (i.e., the mount) is larger for Nikon's F-mount than most alternative systems - this means you can fit an adapter in that difference in registration distance. Also, I believe the mechanical aperture stop-down makes for an easy override, but haven't looked into these things being that I'm using Nikon lenses as intended :p

EOS->F-mount requires corrective lenses to get around the lack of focus to infinity(/or focus to any useful distance I'm guessing).
