This isnt for help nor to moan about a manufacturer this is to sing the praises of
the Gigabyte g31m-es2l HERE
I got one for some cheap overclocking giggles and by jove it knocked my socks off.
To explain I have been overclocking for some years now but only in the winter time, I sell my rig every year to feed my downhill mountain biking habit.
I collect processors during the summer, just pick up any old cheap things going to keep me happy overclocking in the winter.

Every September I pick up a cheapo overclocking board for the socket of processor I have been collecting, just something for while the bike is getting an overhaul ready for sale.
This summer 775 sockets were cheaper than Alan Hansons suits so I got myself a few.
The cheap motherboard choice wasnt a hardship, didnt want to spend much over 40 and the reviews on the Gigabyte g31m-es2l were very good, and at 35 green queens a real find

It came in today but I had a bit of work needing finished so I put it to the side, a few hours ago I got it put in my system and dropped the least powerful CPU I had in, a E2140.
Now before I tell you how it went I need to say Im a water cooling fan but my pump was broken in storage (I dont sell my water cooling gear).

I dont have a after market cooler for 775 (yet) so its a stock cooler.
Well after installing / downloading all I needed (you know the gig prime95, CPU-Z etc) I went and poked about the BIOS for the 1st time.........OMG
I have overclocked on some cheap board, overclocked on some expensive board but I have never been so happy with price vs options It was ....WOW
So I started playing about didnt look for my max FSB wasnt really serious just messing about but holy jeez stock volts (1.2750) I booted windows @ 2.9 GHZ

Now my temps are a little crazy for stock volts at 2.9 (49 idle/ 67 load only stress tested for 10 min due to high temp but with a AM cooler or dare I say it "water" this board might very well take this chip to 3.5GHz or more.

I get my main rig after the bike sells but until then I am really going to enjoy this board.
Roll on after market cooling :)

More about the overclocks on the board will be post after AM cooling gets here.

That.

I heard the G31 based mobos were quite good for overclocking on.

I'm waiting for the 'OMFG my MOSFETS are on fire!111'

How about this? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-220-GI&tool=3

The G41 version My P5K Pro died I need a quick replacement.

Yeah I was looking at that board tonight, if this boards good then that board must be ......it just has to be

Seeing as my Q6600 won't go past 3GHz on my P5QL PRO, might get one of these, thanks for this thread :)

I read someplace that there not so good on the quads.

The processors I have to clock:
E2140
E2200
E5400
E5300
E6550
E6300

My main rig is going to be the 1055t but I like clocking everything I can get my hands on, jeez I even have a few pentium D's coming next week.
The 920, the old fans favorite the 805 and a celly D 336

Didnt pay over £25 for any of them, the celly D 336 only cost 3 quid, cheaper for me to get my kicks that way:)

I bought this exact mobo in the purple shirt shop, I didnt realize it was actually any good and just served as a stop gap until I got a replacement p45 mobo

I usually go for cheaper motherboards (mine in sig. is the 'LE') and I usually get lucky with the overclocks. I only stayed at 3.8GHz due to heat. It was staable at 4GHz and maybe more. Also the e2**0 were great overclocks. My e2180 clocked from 2Ghz to 3.2ghz. At the time, there were plenty of people who managed 100% overclocks on the e2140 and e2160.

Yeah I was clocking AMD when I wanted to be clocking the E2**0 series, ah well better late than never.

And yeah ideally a P45 for quads, that being said P35 is very very good as well.
