dog urinating outside our drive

ok, to set the record straight. the water meter is our meter for our property, to which i have to supply a reading to our water company every month!
i have 2 small kids who have to walk pass this every day before going to nursery, i have to ensure they dont touch or walk over the bloody patch where the dog does it business.
the owner has a tree outside his own house, but goes out of his way to ensure he pee's outside my house! this is on the pavement...not on the side anywhere!!

btw you could try bleaching the area dogs usually only urinate where they know another dog has been, if you can clean the area enough it might just walk past next time

This is what annoys me with dog owners.

They think it's OK to let a dog urinate on other peoples footpaths or gardens... even though the house owners may have kids rolling around on them.

Or they think it's OK to have their dogs peeeing up against a lampost outside my house (we have a streetlight outside our house that is a constant dog pee spot) - even though they have a lampost outside their own house that their kids swing around.

And that's not a funny statement.

If I owned a dog (or any other pet) - I would make damn sure it didn't do it's business anywhere near any kids.

Most times my son goes out into our front street with his friends - he grabs the streetlight and swings around it, as most kids in the street do (after all the dog owners have let their mutts pee up against it - at the same height his hands are at)

Now that you know it's just a bit of dog urine, doesn't that put your mind at rest that there isn't an actual leakage problem...or are just such a busybody that a bit of bloody dog wee is bringing your world to a halt?

Errm, perhaps warn your kids to be careful of animal wee? It's not just dog owners...any animal, including cats, could just as easily be weeing in the same places. It's common sense.

They'll be cleaning themselves when they come inside anyway, won't they? Their clothes will also be going into the wash, so where's the problem?

It's with faeces that the actual problem comes in. That's the REAL irresponsibility.

Every patch of grass around here is a dog toilet. Always makes me cringe when I see people sitting or kids playing on it. Just walking round the corner from my flat the other day and there was this huge mastiff taking a dump on the corner, it turned around and looked me right in the eye as it stood there poopin away like it was saying "What you gonna do about it?"

People should be made to feel bad about letting their pets foul wherever they want tbh.

Would you be so flippant about your own children touching it ?

"Leptospirosis is transmitted by the urine of an infected animal and is contagious as long as it is still moist. Although rats, mice and moles are important primary hosts, a wide range of other mammals including dogs, deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, cows, sheep, raccoons, possums, skunks, and certain marine mammals are able to carry and transmit the disease as secondary hosts"

Just one of many possible urine transmitted conditions from pets (especially dogs and cats).

Personally I wouldn't be too happy with a dog peeing at my property :/

Can't you maybe buy a spray of some sorts (don't know any specific products but I'm sure there are some available) that will keep the dog away from it?

1) Why don't you try speaking to the guy who lets his dog **** on your drive?

2) Air rifle, shoot owner

3) Air rifle, shoot dog

4) Bag of poop through their letterbox every time you see the patch of ****

5) Smear their windows with faeces

6) Report back on how you got on

It's not that, but I mean...where does the paranoia end? When your kids head out to play they could be swinging on endless lampposts, rolling around in grassland or anywhere else for that matter. ANY of these could be invisibly contaminated with animal urine.

What do you want to do, ban animals from the streets?

If you're so paranoid about it, then confine your kids to playing in your yard - don't expect the rest of the world to change for you. This isn't said from the view of the oft-expected arrogant dog owner, but rather common sense.

The best you can do is instruct your children to be careful when out playing to look for signs of animal waste. That doesn't take a lot of effort, does it?

I got some bad news for you, there's birds pooping in your garden to, and kids can get some really nasty things touching that and rubbing their eyes! I recommend ringing the RSPB first thing in the morning!

Go to zoo
ask to buy some wolf poo (for dogs in your case) or lion poo (for cats)
Place said droppings in water meter.

Lion crap worked wonders keeping the vermin cats outta my rose bed, dunno if the wolf thing will work though but perhaps worth a try lol. Would be funny seeing the water meter being read if nothing else :).

Make sure you can prove you were out and shoot the dog with a rubber pellet from inside a bush on the other side of the road.

You must be going out of your mind if you worry about such small risks such of Leptospirosis!

Incidence (annual) of Leptospirosis: 100-200 cases annually in USA

Do step 3 before step two. By doing this you kill the dog first and the owner is less likely to run off making it easier for you.

All these generalisations of "This is what I hate about dog owners" is a bit harsh.
I'm a dog owner and even when she takes a crap on grass I bag it. I certainly don't let her pee on other peoples property. Although she wouldn't anyway, only grass will do for her.
Not all dog owners are irresponsible.
