Currently running sli gtx 275's, cards are xfx 640mhz core clocked models, (ran at stock), thinking of moving to a single card, (470 gtx, with sli option later when prices drop) Would i notice much of a difference? After selling the 275's it would be a pretty cheap upgrade, gaming at 1920x1200 on a 4ghz i7, im thinking that ill maybe see a better rise in minimum fps in all games, the current sli setup is prety good in games that utilise sli. Also, would a corsair hx 850w power gtx 470's in sli, rest of my rig consists of 3 x 7200 rpm hdd's, xonar dx pcie soundcard, fan controller and a blu ray drive.

At stock the GTX470 is slightly slower than your SLI setup... however with an overclock it would be consistantly ahead of even fairly heavily OC'd 200 series SLI and gives far more consistant performance... knowing what I do now I can't say I'd be in a hurry to upgrade again from my GTX260 SLI to a GTX470 but neither do I have any regrets having done it - especially as I'm now running at 800/1600/2000 on my 470.

Nice clocks on the 470 Rroff, did you notice much of a gain in minimum/average fps in games compared to the 260 sli setup, also does the 470 run much cooler, my own two cards tend to give off quite a bit of heat, even at stock, hence when gaming i use 75% manual fan speed, (headphones to avoid the noise), at idle theyre extremely quiet, auto fan speed of 50%. Also im thinking of watercooling my cpu, a single card would give me a bit more room. Below is my case and rig as it currently looks.

If 470's EOL it might be a bit more difficult to go SLI later without hunting on MM or the bay .
What about 460's instead, if you got some quiet models you probably won't need your headphones any more and you should still have stellar performance if you clock them.

The "baseline" framerate is certainly higher - not that I'd complain about the 260 SLI but the 470 does feel smoother/more consistant in intensive scenes. Can't really comment on temps as I still have one of the GTX260 in there for physx.

I think I'd have been more dissapointed tho if it wasn't for the fact its pretty easy to get 30+% OC out of the 470 - which does put it considerably ahead of my old setup in some games and generally atleast matching or beating it in the rest.

Ive noticed this week, my i7 is at stock as opposed to its normal 4ghz, (doing a bios update and cleaning of the case), ive seen a fair drop in fps in bfbc2/mw2 when running at stock 2.6ghz, rig still runs a bit warm as im using the stock intel cooler, my TRUE black is still drying out after being washed in the shower.:D

I got a Zotac 470GTX and a GTX295, the GTX470 is just smoother.
Is the gtx 295 comnparable to 260 gtx sli stulid? My last nvidia card was a gtx 280 but it died on me, hence the cheap upgrade to the 275's., (£240.00).

Think the gtx 295 is two underclocked gtx 275 cores so probably somewhere between 260 sli and 275 sli.

Tbh would just hold off this generation for now. I doubt many games really stuggle with your setup.

I'm late to the party and have only just added my 2nd gtx 275 to go sli and am very happy. If you're taking performance per pound into account then you are going to struggle to justify an upgrade worth the money imo.
