How much should I charge in petrol?

I don't see an issue with what your asking either. I don't drive myself but when I get lifts with mates then its either they don't want the money or just say grab them a drink etc on the night. Always offer though whether they have gone out of the way or not.

£5 is cheap, its about that for a couple mile journey from town to my house in a taxi - can't understand why he is complaining about a couple of quid (espcially if he is going out on the lash, club entry etc!)

Are all of your mates poor? I'd suggest you don't go out if that's the case. A fiver is nothing on a night out, you cant even get a round of beers for that much.

i very rarely ask for petrol money from my mates maybe one trip in 20 ill ask for a quid each
usually they offer and i decline
not many of them drive either so i know where your comming from

I think the biggest worry you have is not how much you should charge your mates but how you should be getting yourself out of the position you are in when you can't even afford a journey.

You are skint so you are going out, then trying to make a profit charging your mates for petrol.

Some friend you are.

Skint = NOT GOING OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I want to be as fair as possible but I want to make a little bit of money for me not drinking and offering to drive them

sorry but LOL!

yea that really sounds fair, trying to make profits off friends...some 'friend' you are

and what does you not drinking have anything to do with it? do you want a medal? or just a cash prize?

jeeeeeeeeeeeeez just pull up at a petrol station on the way there and ask can they get a tenner together or something? if they cant, just say ok can they buy you a few drinks and something to eat afterwards? was there really any need for this whole topic? why dont you install a taxi meter in your car?

oh and I have a friend who is really cool and drives me to a lot of places..he never asks for money directly, unless its a long distance thing, and even though im skint as well i do try and help out, if not with money for petrol, then buying food etc

You could just stay in. Invite your mates round to yours and charge them pro rata on your rent/mortgage for the time they are there. Remember and add some utility costs and any food or drink they consume.

Sorry couldn't resist. :p

If someone asked me for a lift, and I already had juice in the tank, I'd go without a second thought.

If I had to specially fill up for them, I'd expect them to chip in, but I certainly wouldn't leave them if they couldn't.

You are going already, so your already going to use fuel. If you really want to charge, then charge for the extra fuel your fiends will use.

About £1 each I reckon.

Tbh the distances you describe would cost a lot in a taxicso a fiver seems fair.

Don't charge them anything - you'll more than likely find you get your drinks bought for you and a few notes thrown your way at the end of the night anyway.
