Changing from pay as you go to contract - does phone number change?

I'm thinking of getting a sim only contract and putting it in my phone, does that change my phone number or do I keep the same one?

Thank for any help, I'm clueless with mobile phones.

Same network? If so, just call them and ask to change to a SIM only priceplan.

Perhaps, just call them.

talk to them, i recently went from payg to contract and vodafone just assigned my payg number to the contract, took about an hour

I'm with vodafone as well so that should work for me.
