total cost for the desk was £8.00
wood came from my uncle who's factory was shutting down so the wood was lying around and he cut it for me and delivered it as well.

the radiator cover mdf on the side was from another friend who done a job for someone and they asked him to get rid of a old radiator cover they didnt want and i had the front for my desk.

the desk is painted in dulux white paint from my shed which was just enough to give it 4 coats.

then i varnished the desk with gloss varnish and turned out very nice to be honest.

the little light's along the back are decking light's which i found in homebase for £9.93 and instead of 4 light's which the packet said there was 6 in there, box is a bit bashed and torn and all the light's were just sitting on top of it so once i found everything was there i went to the checkout and the women said"that will be £4.50 please" i quickly paid and left with a big smile.

ive just got some plastic edging to go on and it's all done.

not bad for under a £10 :D

It's very nice, but it looks virtually identical to the original desk.. would it have not been even cheaper to repaint the old one? :/

the old one was glass and had big silver legs and didn't fit in with our new scheme we are going to do in the living room.

Nice work mate :)

I like the use of a radiator cover so your case gets air from the side.

Im going to build a desk after me and the GF get a house (and hopefully a shed for me to build it in!).

the top of the desk is 1 3/4 inch mdf which feel's lovely and solid and the gloss varnish finish is lovely.

the rest of the mdf is 1 inch thick.

Can't help but notice that you painted it in the room and got paint on the walls??

just above the desk will be a dado rail and the bottom of the wall will be painted white as well so i wasn't bothered about getting a few bit's of white on the wall.

the desk is very very heavy and it is also screwed to the wall along the back.

the desk wouldn't have fitted through the door's also as it is 44 inches wide...30 inches deep and 33 inches high.
