Should I tell the wife? (spider related)

Surely your wife should already know that different continent = different spiders and bugs. Its not exactly going to be a massive shock to her, "YOU MADE ME THINK CHINA WAS A SPIDERLESS COUNTRY!!!!"

I really doubt you will see one to be honest. So I wouldn't bother telling her. They are more likely to stay out of your way.

We were off the normal paths in Laos and in Thailand where they have numerous big spiders, scorpions and snakes etc but didn't come across any, I was rather disappointed :( I wanted to see the blue tarantulas they have in those parts but nope :(

The spider you have shown is a Haplopelma schmidti, and yes they can grow to about 8" and are a very robust species.

They live in deep burrows in forests. You won't see one.

There are worse things in china i'd be worried about than spiders tbh :p

Some evil centipedes and stuff out that way

be glad you're not going to aus

Awww, even if I was to send the missus into a burrow head first? :D

Thanks for the replies. To be honest, she's so busy worrying about the squat toilets she hasn't even considered the creepy-crawly aspect.

Urgh, I bloody hate spiders, and now I am itching and checking under my desk for them after seeing them pics.

And that bird eating spider is awesome, as much as I hate them, thats some ****** up ****.

Oh and don't tell your wife :D
