Peugeot 407 coupe...fallen in love!

/Wears his flame proof suit

Never thought I would say this but really like these cars:

Seem to get a lot of car/gadgets for you money. Never really been on the radar for cars, however this looks to be a very very good car for my new commute. I would love to have a Subaru however a change in my commute will lead me to a cruiser / better economy car.

Has anyone had any personal experience with them?
Do they suffer from any mechanical/electrical gremlins?
Can there be any other car out there for the same cash/spec?

Cheers

It emits 226g CO2 so I doubt it will be that good on fuel! Also over £400 a year to tax, adds to the inevitable repair costs. Probably exceptionally comfortable though!

I am guessing it's the same 2.7 diesel that used to be in the Jags and Discos - so it's quite a good one I think in terms of refinement and power delivery.

I like it actually. But don't expect it to handle well and budget for some repair bills :)

Not really fussed about how it handles any more. Commute and most of my driving are on motorway & A roads, so it is comfort I am now looking towards. Currently sharing a punto grande sporting with my gf, find it quite nice to drive, however we need 2 cars & also I prefer bigger cars.

Tax doesn't bother me, only something like £30 a month.

Wonder how much repair bills will be? Would it be along the same line as BMW's? So say have £1k tucked away in the bank for repairs?

Its probly the only new peugeot that if it was given to me i wouldnt kill my self

406 coupe is miles better though

Reviews on that site Mike seem very positive...

...very very tempted, and I bet I can get some great prices from a mate in the motor trade

Afraid I have no idea! It's pretty hard to predict what would go wrong. Part for part I'm sure it'd be less than BMW but it's the MTBF that would be lower! Having said that, you'd not find a good 06 BMW for that money so it would probably be just as reliable (compared to say on 02 BMW). Looking at the whatcar? reviews though no owners seem to have reported any problems which is a good sign!

One thing I have learnt is that the market prices things pretty fairly. If something is unreliable, it will be cheap to buy used. If something has a reputation for being super-reliable there will be a price premium at the start. So there's not a massive amount of difference where you stick you money. Just buy what you like.

"This is a fabulous car with all the bells and whistles as standard. The performance is superb, especially when motorway driving. It's much quicker than Porsche's, Jag's and Audi TT's etc. The only vehicles that pass me are white transit vans!!"

okay....

seems a fair whack of car for teh money.

perhaps loose the auto box and swap the diesel lump for a petrol but thats just personal preference, actually quite like the look of the interior too

Really have fallen in love with these cars...I got over the Fiat ownership...I am sure I could come to terms with owning a Peugeot!

Wonder how they would take to a remap?

Also Foxtrot, any review I have read says it is the 2.7 diesel & auto box to go for! Perfect for my needs...

Guy at work bought one of these new, the depreciation would put me in an early grave I think!

Aren't they hand built in France or something?

Wait a bit longer and they'll be even cheaper.
The only thing that I don't like about them is the ridiculously long front overhang.
Very tempting though, but over here they still fetch in excess of £10k.

Quite suprised this hasn't been torn to bits as I was expecting!

mjt - I think it is the nose that really makes the car stand out, and in my opionion looks stunning.

Would not like to have been buying one of these new...about £30k 4 years ago...now can be had for as little as £6.5k!!

I've been a passenger in one of these before and I must say it was a lovely place to be, I've not driven one so can't comment of the performance or economy of it.

However the interior is finished off nicely and the car looks great.

After all the electrical gremlins in the 407 saloon i had i wouldnt touch one with a barge pole.

Long over hang at the front is a pain, worst tyre pressure sensors iv ever seen in any car, rear light clusters needing some DIY new earth wire.

Its funny the car was ok when i got it, then after about 6 weeks it just went balistic.

Get that engine in an S type Jag instead.

See...its things like that which put me off the French!!

How is the S-Type in general? Any things to look out for? Anything major that goes wrong with them?

Its a great engine in a well sorted reliable car. For 7-8k you will get a 2005-2006 car, buy which time the S type had all the niggles sorted.
