Hey guys, have had my xfx 4890 for about 7-8 months since the first one I bought was DOA (sensing a trend here!) moved house 2 weeks ago, set the pc up last week and was having issues getting a signal on the monitor at all, might have been the dvi cable, after a new dvi and reseat of the card it seemed to have passed up that problem, put it on this morning and got bsod 4 times on windows 7 startup saying it could not load graphic drivers, another restate and the graphics were corrupted, blocky etc same as with the first card, artifacts all over the shop :(

After a few more restarts I had artifacts all over, again did a reseat of the card, moved it a bit further away from the wall (wasn't very close to it before!) restarted and all looked fine, ran 3dmark to try and give it a push, still fine, 6 hours later no graphical woes, all seeming ok.

Does this seem like a few unfortunate errors or a card on it's way out? Gave requested an RMA with OcUK which is to be done, but as I need the pc it's hard to go without it for 2 weeks on a maybe error, also had the bug a few days ago where the screen would go black fir 2 seconds anytime you used the windows aero in anyway, which seemed to fixed by using a default aero colour, instead of a custom one!

Thanks :)

Are you saying you had symptoms before the house move? Is it not possible to test it in another machine first, before rma requesting?

Could be driver related.

A precaution would be to check the card to see if fan is rotating and therefore cooling, and if it is clogged with dust. The issues you discribe may just be due to various things.

Oh, have you got the power plugs into the card from the PSU?

I've not had any issues before the move, no, and only have 1 pc with pci-e sadly :(

I've checked the card fully, fan is spinning, no dust or clogging, both power connections are in, as said I have reseated it, when I get broadband on Monday I'll try new drivers too.

Also, have been monitoring gpu-z, gpu temp hasn't gone over 45 degrees since 3dmark and gpu fan always at 22 or 23%.

Try using Furmark to push card and see if it creates any artifacts, or 3D Mark Vantage if you have it. Both should push it to limit. That would indicate to me if it was a failing GPU.

If not I would say your symptoms might be driver related. he 4890 are good cards as far as I am aware.
