When was the last time you just went for a drive?

I haven't for many a year. But this thread has made me realise I used to do it all the time. I remember when I first passed my test (1988 I think), I'd just got a mk1 Golf and I'd go out at night around Epping. I used to love it when it was foggy.

Same. I think having a small engine gives me little inspiration, unless I hit the country roads.
I hate that you have to be 23 to hire a car. I've often had the urge to hire something with a little more luxury and power for taking a day trip.
Just last night actually. Will probably go for an enthusiastic drive for a while before I hit the gym early tomorrow.
Love being able to throw it round some corners and building a bit of speed at night. Thinking about it, i would almost call it a reflection period

My first car was a 1999 1.25 Fiesta, and I loved it. Bizarrely, out of all the cars I've sold, it's the one I miss the most.
I think the ability to drive it pretty hard, whilst staying at sensible speeds was it's strongest point. Plus, for a shopping cart, it handled reasonably well!
I'd love to be like Jay Kay, and to have kept every car I've ever owned.

Just got in now, been out since 10 this morning all over derbyshire hunting out gravel tracks in a caged, sump/tank guarded 205 1.9 with bilstein gravel coilovers, gti6 brakes, cheap crap tyres, some spare wheels, big cibie spotlights and me and a daft mate at the wheel. Some rather stupid moments including 90mph with full opposite lock on gravel, fully airborn going through a gate barely wider than the car. Only 50 quid in petrol and nothing broke, bargain day out.
I ought to have taken some pics of the car after today, you detailers would probably feel sick. 1.1 front bumper, mismatched panels, xsara vts wheels on the front, 1.6gti wheels on the back, mud covering every panel including roof.
And tomorrow silverstone in a puma engined fiesta
We went there today in the 205, including the bit that goes up round howden reservoir at slightly naughty speeds in a not entirely straight line

not for an age, but tomorrow its Scirocco cleaning time, then a drive over to Ladybower Lake/Reservoir where I can watch the petrol simply drain out as I drive

Tuesday, went to powerstation with a few other members from another forum. A short blast on wednesday to test out a new boost control solenoid and ecu map probably another trip out tomorrow eve to test out the boost gauge i fitted today and then the next time will be next saturday when i take the car around castle combe.
What kind of roads would you recommend? I can't say I've never really been for just a drive. It's something I'd like to start doing though, get my off the Xbox.
Driving for pleasure seems a bit of a lost art!
Turn down that road that you always wanted to know where it led.
Take a familiar road with time to enjoy it, rather than rushing to get to work.
Plan a little road trip to a town you've never been to, stop, have a coffee, then head back.
Get yourself hopelessly lost around the countryside, then use your sat nav to point you at a familiar place again.
Don't use the motorway unless you absolutely have to.
You don't have to be going fast to have fun.
Don't do this in rush hour.
Do consider a 10pm/5am drive!
It truly doesn't matter what you drive, it's how much fun you have whilst driving it!

Over a week ago now, was so nice to do it though, clear my head and stuff.
Your dead right MrFunex, a dying art, i remember growing up, just about every weekend you were bundled into the car and ferried of somewhere, usually a place called sheepwash . No idea where it was but must have been near Stokesley.

Last night - sun was shining, lovely and warm. Popped the roof down on my SLK and took her for a spin up the A4 from Bath towards the M4, then turned around at the roundabout. Good thing too, because my battery was pretty flat. Was great fun though.
