if i buy a locked iphone4 (orange), can i get it unlocked?

i guess i'll try jailbreaking it, but is it then fully unlocked.

its not gonna crap out, when it gets auto updated will it

This thread will most likely disappear as you mentioned a taboo word, but if you do it that way it will be fully unlocked once you've run the unlock tool available through the "other" app store.

You will need to re-unlock with each iOS update though.

You do know people are aloud to talk about Jailbreaking on here now right?

I heard that if you have an issue with the phone, go to an apple store and they might just replace it. I think some replacements are factory unlocked?

AFAIK Its not illegal now as the phone is opened to all networks.

And the updates should not lock the phone as the software is not from O2 as its network free now.

The software was never from the carrier, however the carrier still recieves network locked handsets, which updating the iOS resets the status of.

A locked handset will always re-lock (when using ultrasn0w to unlock) upon use of an iOS update.
