So, assuming both are OCed to 4.0Ghz which would give superior results in gaming and general computer use:
An i7 930 with 6GB 1600mhz ram
or
a 1090T black edition six core with 4 GB of 1600mhz ram?

Trying to compare the two but am getting very confused!

Well I dout really that you would see much of an improvement with gaming with six or four cores as very little games make use of the cores at the moment, but they are bound to in the future.
The i7 has the benifit of using more RAM so thats an upside but also at a cost due to the being more expencive. What do you class as general computer use though?

general computer use I consider to be music + internet + video + MS office etc. Nothing strenuous for a system of this spec :P

Overall I'd say go for the 1090T because while the 930 is slightly faster in games, there is no game in which the 1090T dips below 60fps so you wont be able to tell the difference. And the 1090T has 6 cores, meaning its more future proof - faster in multithreaded apps.

Hi Madals,

the AMD® Phenom™ II X6 1055T processor & AMD® 890GX Chipset is an interesting *Bang-for-Buck* combo! :)

tricore for gaming?....

most recent games use 3 cores already will be a bottlekneck fast :P

Nah, 3 cores isnt bottlenecking for a good time still.

an amd system with a high end videocard is a great price/performance for most people.
I mean at 1920x1080 it isnt that demanding to push pixles.
The 10% that are entusiasts might go for the more expensive solution.
My sisters kids all would use a amd system and be happy about it

If you cant decide between those two CPUs, take the middle ground and go for an I5 750.

Thats the best option for gaming for its price.

This would make a great gaming build while three of the items are on this week only offers:

From benchmarks it seems i7 870 beats i7 930. Why is that?

Higher turbo boost multiplier.

If you arent going to overclock yourself, then the LGA 1156 CPUs will outperform the LGA 1366 ones as the turbo boost on them is +400 Mhz, as opposed to +200 Mhz on the LGA 1366.

Unless the OP is doing any gaming or video editing or anything like that, I'd just get an Athlon II setup and spend the extra cash on an SSD.

For every day stuff that'll probably be nippier than a i7 930 setup with an HDD.

So at stock settings lga1156 i7s beat lga1136 i7s. Does i7 870 overclock to 4Ghz? If it does would it still beat i7 930@4Ghz?

I7 is faster at the same clock depending on what your doing due to the bandwidth. In the real world you probably couldn't tell. I have I5 and I7 and the only real advantage is memory. I5 consumes a lot less power so six and two three's.

If you've got your mind set on getting either and if you are just using your computer as you've specified then you will never notice the difference between either.
