Well, I've joined the ranks of skinflints who fill up from the black pump.
I have just purchased a 2nd hand motor from a BMW main agent.

She's a 2007 (56) 730d Sport on 70k miles with 1 owner from new. She has the updated 3.0d engine with 227bhp and 384lb-ft of torque. Top end of 148mph with 0-60 in 7.6s. Should pull 35mpg on average (it's what I managed on my test drive which was a mix of coutry roads and dual carridgeway).

Options:
Comfort front seats
Electric boot lid
19" Style 95 wheels
CD Changer
Dark grain high gloss Ash wood
Soft-close doors
DVB TV function

Standard kit for this model and year:
Sport pack (lowered suspension with active arbs)
iDrive with navigation
Bluetooth phone prep
Voice Control
Bi-Xenon lamps
Visual PDC front and rear

I've traded my knackered 540i in against it (worth about £500 as a breaker as it really is shagged) and negotiated a storming deal due to a pricing error I noticed after we'd agreed a trade in value for my car.

Total outlay - £15,000 including 12 mnths tax and 12 mnths BMW warranty. She's even got four brand new P-Zeroes on her.

I get her on Saturday.

Ps, *****

Aye. I shall just make sure I wear a cap and dark glasses whenever I fill her up. The shame.

Nice, love those E65's. What was the pricing error/mess up then?

It was stickered up at £17k. I was expecting to get £500 from my 5 so 16.5 to pay. Then I noticed that on Cooper BMWs dealer specific website it was priced at £16k. We'd already negotiated that I would pay £16,000 for it and when I saw the error I called the dealer. There were some very hushed coversations between the salesman and the manager. We agreed £15,000 and they appologised for the error.
Manage showed me the invoice for what he paid for the car as a trade in..... £15,500. He wasn't happy but said "You got us bang to rights. We have to honor the website price".

I always thought that you were staunchly anti-diesel, particularly with big execs?

Would definitely be my engine of choice in such a car, looks very nice.

I was but I'm willing to admit it when I'm wrong. When I drove the car, the lazy, torquey diesel motor actually really suited the type of car. I was convinced as it was just so relaxed to drive.

Still sounds like a tractor though.

How do you enjoy the service at Cooper Reading? Sometimes I find they are really helpful, and other times they are a massive PITA.
Good buy :)

Just realised it was the BMW garage right by the Tesco. I was there leaning against a 5 series at about 3am last weekend ruined out of my skull at Reading Festival :D

Ridiculous value for money.
That dash is awfully fussy, but I suspect that's really not on the radar.

Enjoy it, that engine is brilliant for the car.

Excellent! Great value for money, and a perfectly capable and sensible engine choice. A much better bet than the Lexus. Hope you enjoy it.
