A few weeks ago i brought a acer aspire 5310 for spare parts from a car boot cheep due to the screen been smashed. I have installed a new screen and the laptop boots fine but the whoever had it before has installed a pirate version of windows 7. It supposed to have windows vista on and i've looked in disk management and there is a hidden partition callied recovery so i'm hoping vista is still there. How do i get to recover this laptop to its own vista as i'm hoping to sell this laptop on and do not want to leave a pirate copy installed.

If I were you, I'd get a legit copy of Windows 7, format the HDD and just reinstall from scratch.

If you really want to pursue the Vista recovery angle though, you'll probably need some kind of disc from the manufacturer. Probably originally came included with the laptop.

I don't want to buy a operating system disk as that would cost and i'm not planning in keeping this laptop. On this laptop model i'm supposed to be able to get into the recovery software by pressing alt & f10 but it won't go anywhere.

ALT+F10 on boot up should launch the recovery utility from the partition

That's a point, are you pressing the combination on boot, or after Windows has loaded?

This laptop supposed to have vista home premium and i have the key. Can i download a vista torrent and use the key.

Well, yes, but you can't be sure of the security of the files you download if you attain them from the torrentz. I'd ask if you can borrow a friend's Vista HP disc or something.
