Stuck on the A406
Hi all,

My phone needs updating and Im looking for a replacement.

I dont necessarily need all the features of a fully-fledged smartphone, dont care about camera or video (I have a good digi camera for that).

Im looking for something with web (light browsing) and email features that looks good and will fit in my jeans pocket comfortably. Also would like to to be easy to text with.

I was looking at the Sony Ericsson vivaz Pro (I liked the look of the slide out keyboard) but the reviews on that are not favorable.

Anyway there are so many phones out there that I am feeling a bit swamped.

Any good suggestions?

Thanks in advance

palm pre?

Try the keyboard out on it and see if you can get used to it.

Otherwise there's the x10 mini pro.

Thanks Ill have a look at the Palm Pre.

what about Nokia 5800? any good?

Well it has a resistive touch screen which may make it hard to type regularly on without a stylus. I think you should stick to a phone with a capacitive screen.

If the 5800 is more your budget, then I'd look at t-mobile pulse or htc hero. But like the 5800, no physical keyboard.

Blackberry maybe? If you're using it for email and texting they should definitely be considered.

Probably a Curve 3G 9300 or a Bold 9700? Both can be had on reasonable contracts nowadays (My new 9700 is on an 18 month, 100 minute, unlimited texts, 500mb internet + BB email £20pm contract, curve's are a bit cheaper)

Just doing some more research now - The Xperia Mini Pro suggested above looks like an excellent fit for my needs. I do like the look of it better than the Blackberries as well.

Make sure you try it in a shop before you order it, I was originally going to go with the Mini Pro but the keyboard isn't great, rather cramped, very flat, and a bit awkward to type on for me, but I'm sure with practice that could get better.

Cheers I will definitely do that. Ill be getting a phone on contract so I dont want to discover after a month that I hate it :p

Compared to a blackberry or palm pre, the keyboard is massive. Not sure there's anything better.

The X10 Mini pro is NOT good to browse on, nor is the Wildfire.

The HTC Hero does a good enough job at browsing and does everything else quite well to boot.

You dont need a keyboard despite what you may think. Touch screen ones are excellent and anyone who can use their hands properly will grasp fast typing on it without issues.
