Hi, i recently purchased some clothing from America coming to the total sum of 215 quid shipped. Goods arrived at work last week Wednesday, received by reception and nothing was mentioned by the driver of any further charges. Today i received a letter asking for 35 quid for processing fees by UPS and they stated that the goods were to be released COD but somehow i managed to get it without paying. Any comeback on this if i just ignore it? :D Usually i'm not this dodgy but ffs 35 quid?

They will chase you for it and they will get their collection department on to you if you don't pay it, (if they are anything like Fedex that is ... who I've had issues with in the past due to their incompetence in the addressing of invoices)

I would pay it.

You could always just wait and see, what's the worst that could happen.

Possibly breaking into your house in the middle of the night and threaten your little golden retriever puppy while while you're tied to a chair getting repeatedly slapped across the face with a mackerel leaving you little choice but to pay the £35.

some of those fees will be import duty etc.. i expect also ?

just pay it.

This, UPS pay the import duties on your behalf, slap on a nice handling fee and then chase you for the money.

Best pay it, last thing you want is a collection agency hounding you at work.

I thought you could get rid of collection agencies by saying there is a query?

Anyway, demand an invoice and an explanation of how they arrived at that cost, just to annoy them.

Then pay with pennies, tied into an old style parcel paper/string parcel so when they open it all the pennies spill everywhere.

This sounds good

So pay up and dont forget to wipe a few coins in dog poo:)

I get this all the time when I buy t-shirts from Threadless. Sometime the UPS man shows up, gives me the box and a few days later I'll get a customs bill, other times they refuse to give me the parcel until I pay up.

You owe the money, so how's about you pay up?

They will chase you for payment and then take legal proceedings against you if you do not respond.

Thats not so bad... when I bought £30 worth of t-shirts from the states I ended up paying an extra £18 in handling fees, tax/duty, etc. :(

Pay up, but make sure you check the figures are correct. About 90% of the bills ive had for duty, etc have been incorrect in their favour.

Oh yes, definitely do this .... if they've screwed it up you may be able to get them to reduce, or even remove, the admin fee element of the charge (Fedex did for me when I pointed out that the included vendor invoice clearly showed item price and shipping fee, whilst Fedex's included calculation for VAT and duty was based on (item price + shipping fee + >£60 random figure they had pulled out their bottom for no valid reason)).

You are lucky UPS gave you the package though, the times I've dealt with them it's always been COD ...

UPS: COD
Fedex: Invoice you after, but probably incorrectly and they are poor at sending the invoice to the correct address (and then chase you for it afterwards when you haven't seen it).
ParcelForce: Send you a letter to pay before they deliver.
DHL: Invoice you after? ... can't remember it's been so long since I've had anything come by them.
