Been on a Voda contract for ages now, but found a really good deal online for the X10 Mini Pro on TMobile with 1000mb web, and enough mins/texts for what I use.

So call up Voda to get my PAC, guy asks the obligatory "how come" question, I say that I found a good deal and give him the specs when asked.
His reply is simply "wow that is a good deal. Well your PAC will be texted to you in 2-3 days" ... No attempt what so ever to tempt me to stay, no "let me see what's the best we can offer you", no nothing.

probably thought you were trying it on to get a better deal, so happily just gave you your PAC code lol

Though from the sounds of it, that's not an issue as you genuinely want that new deal

there all doing it , the mrs switched from being on o2 since it took over from bt to orange this month as they refused to budge on contract negotiations....bit lame if you ask me, how they wouldnt rather that extra £20+ a month from somebody and just let them leave is beyond me, all their doing is sending a few packets everynow and again!!

there just boosting a rival companies profit who are actually willing to negotiate ie. orange.

its not good business sense at all especially in such a competitive market.

Yer, the new deal ticks all the boxes I have, but I'm just amazed Voda people didn't even TRY to give me some sort of offer (even if it's not as good)

I dunno, £20 a month isn't exactly nothing, especially since I don't use all my minutes etc a month

It's £140 a year, that's all. A lot less than the phone you are getting from the other network.
They realise that to match the deal would mean them losing out.
So, you aren't worth enough to keep.

My bro rang up voda today and asked for his pac. Guy said how come. He said because T mobile will give him a free Galaxary S on £25 p/m 600min, unlimited texts and an internet bolt on. Bloke said is we can do that for you will you stay, he said yes, they did.

I imagine a lot of it depends on the sales chap you get and what phone you're after.

T-Mobile did the same thing to me. I detailed out the contract I saw on the web, and retentions simply said they couldn't match it. I even provided the exact link for the guy to check it up (the guy did try to sell me a worse offer and wasn't surprised when I said no).

Couldn't even match the price ignoring quidco cashback which I only mentioned at the end.

This was over a year ago and the rival site was phones4u with orange.

The best customers are the people that are determined to only spend £20-25 a month in line rental BUT have bills of £60+ most months. (low usage, high bills) There are plenty of people who do this. You know who you are:cool: You will get good upgrade offers.

How did you get out of the contract?

The below is all my opinion - The reason is quite simple from inside the industry, its fight time. Certain operators are trying to raise ARPU(Average Revenue Per Unit, ie customer) while decreasing SAC(Subscriber Acquisition Cost). There's good reasons for doing this - shifting brand image, cash growth, dropping dead weight that generates close to zero profit etc etc... but the bottom line is the 900Mhz Crew are doing this to build up for a fight with Everything Everywhere and to do this it's better to shift the lower customers away. The £20 a month person - I'm really sorry, you're not reallu worth keeping :( You're also more likely to jump providers as well.

Also time to dispell the myth - the CSR's can't change the deals they offer you much and the best deal will be pre-set. When you phone up and try to play the game you're really playing their game as they know how valuable you are to the company and they know the bottom line that the company will goto to keep them. Likewise, if you're mister dolphin 25 but spend half your days in Europe then expect us to ship you a free desire on request ;)

sounds about right, been with o2 myself for years now, and about once a year i end up with a stupid bill , few years back i was in canada for weeks and landed myself with a £800 bill lol, needless to say after that o2 were bending over backwards when it came to upgrading....

I get good offers because i travel a lot and therefore spend on roaming and international calls - I don't use my minutes at home ever but never have a bill that is not greater than my package. They love me, the *******!

You'll love 3 then. They'll keep you on the phone for an hour, offering very dubious deals, before agreeing to give you your PAC number.
