Do not buy Corsair AX1200

My 1st AX1200 had severe coil whine and cosmetic damage to the side and fan grille. I returned it to OCUK for a refund. Confident this was a once off, I ordered another form OCUK which arrived the other day. At first everything seemed fine except for some chirping noises from the PSU, even when the pc is off. But now major coil whine is happening again on any benchmarks I run. I really thing Corsair have made a mistake on a flagship product like this. It looks like from the post below they have found the issue which seems to be widespread, but I'm not going to chance another one of these PSU's. I have decided to stick with the Enermax Revolution 85+ 1250w I bought just in case I got another lemon. I'd advise anyone interested in an AX1200 to look elsewhere for the time being as the chances of getting a dud are pretty high indeed going by others I've spoken to who are in the same boat.

I want to mention that we have identified what is causing the coil whine issue and it only affects a very small number of shipped AX1200s. The vast majority should not have any issue whatsoever, and even the units that might experience the issue will only experience it in a certain situation.

That being said, we're fixing it on our side and anybody who has an AX1200 and has coil whine can contact me at [email protected] and I'll get you a new unit. I'll make sure you don't have to be without a PSU during this time, as well, by providing advanced replacement."

excellent customer service there, providing a advanced replacement means you should buy a corsair.

your story tells me you got two from the same faulty batch, which is unlucky.

Indeed, they were both from the same batch. But there are lots of people in the US reporting the same issues so it's pretty widespread. Yes, I probably should have taken Corsair up on the advance RMA replacement from the U.S. I was just impatient. I can't fault their customer service, just the product. I think people should just wait until there are more positive reports from users before buying this PSU.

To be fair, if the replacement is fine, i.e. it is a batch issue, then that's pretty great service. The reality of the world is that sometimes, "excrement happens", it's just a fact of life. The deciding point is how people deal with it when it does :).

Logitech is a fine case in point - if I bought something from them, and it was faulty, I'd be mildly annoyed at the inconvenience sure, but I'd be happy knowing that it would be rectified without any hassle. That's what customer service buys you, loyalty when mistakes occur :).

Just bought one of these from somwhere els today :(, hope i get a winner but i will be sure to test it out a lot first.

Atleast the customer service is very good :D.

Well it's not a specific batch issue as people all over are complaining about this. It's obvioulsy something that's happened as production has ramped up but at least Corsair are screening for it now. As there are lots out there in the field with this problem I wouldn't recommend people buy this PSU until it's sorted. Nothing to do with customer service. I'm sure their customer service is great. The psu is crap however.

Dont worry i will, dont know if ill be able to finish the bulid tomorrow night as ive got boxing school ect... will get some results asap.

Just ran the windows experience index. A tin of very angry wasps describes the noise coming from this yoke  It's louder then my GPU's at 100% fan speed.

isn't the AX1200 the only high end corsair PSU that isn't made by seasonic ?

i remember it being made by someone else instead.

its a shame they dont have the 1000W seasonic version instead

Well it seems as though I'm having a similar issue. Although it's just a high pitched whistle rather than a group of angry wasps :p

It's annoying and I *was* going to live with it however now that they're offering an advanced RMA I'm going to go with that.

Being made by seasonic doesn't guarantee anything. I bought a seasonic s12 600w years ago, and the first one that arrived was DOA (with sparks coming out of the back). I RMA'ed it back to OCUK, and the second one I got is still working well about 6 years on. Every manufacturer can end up with a dodgy box of components.
