**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Okay, I really need a new tactic. Turtling doesn't work at all, it just prevents you from expanding as the enemy will have map control and can wipe out new bases at leisure...

Any tips?

Watch some of indie's and kar's replays. They're both brilliant players and very aggressive. My general rule of thumb is contain and expand. Early aggression usually allows you to contain. Also watch some matches on youtube from day9 and so on. Most of all you just need to keep playing :)

You know what, getting into diamond made me realise something important, this game will never be fun, multiplayer is anything but fun. I was hoping for epic battles likes the pro got but it's always the same old crap. No pleasure, playing custom game is fun, league games suck.

I am retiring, had enough of this crappy ladder

Bad night? :)

I am loving this game, but its not fun as such, the amount of concentration required is frankly quite stressfull.... there is no room for any casual business.

That said, I find I am getting more out of it than lan games between friends with older games such as C&C where we have a 'gentlemans agreement' to turtle for 30 mins before any kind of hostility is allowed, and then go all out.

Much more rewarding I feel, a victory is a real victory, and a defeat hurts, but its not the end of the world, lol!

Y'all need to step up, or step off, lol!

Yeah exactly there's just too much pressure while playing and one mistake you're toast. Thats no fun.

Tried playing protoss in custom games, that was soo much fun, even though i was loosing all the time. I really like that play style, forcefields, pylon warping in...mothership rush xD

Starting to love protoss and hate terran more.

Going to give this protoss thing a go in leagues but I can't help it but thing it will be just as bad of experience as terran in leagues.

Maybe because im so not soo good at it yet but i find this far less fun than c&c lans games. This is the only game ive played that requires pretty much 100% concentration to even be in with a chance of winning.

Mhm.

a) he must have had it in a crazy place because i could see all of his main + natural
and
b) i have no idea what the zerg buildings mean is coming in units :p

Getting better with time though.

Spire more than often will mean mutalisks, unless he's trying to throw you off.

Muta are a harass unit so its best to conceal there entrance into the game, usually with an overlord dropping creep some where obscure, that's my proffered strat anyway :)

its more "who will click faster" game.

Thats a common misconception ^^ most if not all games require an essence of speed and reaction.. even games out of this genre

the problem i find with Starcraft is that there is no middle ground. you have the noobs, competitive players. there so middle tier. So those that are in gold/plat will find it very difficult to enjoy it unless they actually enjoy the mental pressure of the game.

Personally i enjoy it, its what makes a game competitive and enjoyable for me. but i'm not everybody, so a lot of people will find it difficult to "get into". Just not built for some people.

Not really. White-ra is one of the most succesful SC2 players and his APM is about 90. Watching some of the Koreans in the GSL today, they were operating at around 250-300. And their level of play was not great. Even if their mechanics were.

Being able to do more stuff than someone else, i.e. click faster, is always going to help. But it's not the be-all and end-all in this game, unlike SC1.

Exactly, that pretty much sums it up... its not a question of clicking fast and strict build orders, you have to have a lot of mental awareness about what's going on, and be able to switch mindset on the fly to cope, which for me personally, is a good thing, Its fun and stresfull at the same time.

I find it quite refreshing as a lot of games these days require you to adhere to a certain paradigm in order to win, which is pretty 2 dimensional, this game seems pretty open ended to me, which is awesome :D

Just play Terran, then you can make a few mistakes and not get punished.

Protoss is the most 'fun' race to play, if you want some real fun, play some 2v2s on 'island' maps and get 2 bases, blink stalkers, an observer and a warp prism. You can blink in and out of peoples bases snipe something and run away. Then while they are chasing you, you use your prism to warp in a couple zealots here and there.

You can do this pretty easily and it's enourmous fun because basically they can't touch you. You just need your teammate to camp up in the middle incase they get ****ed off and push out.

Finally started to win a few but man people moan. if u go in quick its cheesy rush tactics, if u hang back it sad turtling. I am going to play the why I want win or lose and let the emos cry

I think sc is a game for naturally competitive people. Since it rewards concentration adaptation and experience.

My hockey coach as a kid always used to talk about 'reading and reacting' to the game, and to plays as they developed. SC is the same. So many players (including me tbh at times), will scout their opponent, and go ahah there you are! But the best thing to do it go, okay he has like 15 probes a pylon one gateway warping in and TWO gas. Hang on....why does he need two gas so soon...uh he's going to be teching. Reading that, you can then decide, okay well fine mate you go ahead with your tech, I'm going to keep 3 probes on minerals so I can get four warp gates asap because you are not going to have the benefit of your tech until after I have my warpgates up.

That's what SC2 is all about and will be until some banker strats come out. And that will take years.

Thats another misconception that terran can make mistakes and not be punished, no my friend. As a diamond terran player I can not make any mistakes, otherwise I get destroyed. All the op stuff that most people complain doesn't exist in high leagues.

Stop bashing terran, try playing as them on a serious level then judge.
