Just noticed this has appeared in the 'New Releases' section on Steam!

Pretty much the best SimCity game out there. I've had numerous hard copies of this but always seem to lose them, so this is a definite purchase. :p

as pricey as it is i think id rather pay that for this than by any anything newer alternative, out and out the best city Sim going. only way they could improve would be to update the graphics a touch but keep everything underneath exactly the same, some more variety on the structures and youd have a smash hit again!

Beware there have been no updates made to this and there's no official support for anything other than Windows XP.

SimCity was tested for performance and hardware compatibility when it was originally launched. While the classic gameplay of SimCity 4 remains unchanged, unexpected performance and graphics issues with newer systems may occur. If you experience any performance or graphics issues, we recommend running in Windowed Mode and/or Compatibility Mode to maintain the intended experience.

Would have bought if they'd at least put some effort in and tried to make it more compatible with modern systems.

It does seem to run fine on Win7 64bit with my current hardward, but thats a boxed version, dont know about the Steam one.

I wonder if things like NAM will work?

It works fine on modern hardware. ( although with some drivers you may have to use software rendering and you may have to set affinity to 1 core, but aside from that, the game is solid).

Mods should be fine too. Do you get a code to register @ maxis for patches & mods ?

The game runs awful no matter what your setup is like they should have at least tried to fix this issue for people with good hardware it does my head in i have the deluxe version and it can be good until you play it for a while and you get the massive slow downs due to sloppy programming.

£9.99 is a rip off but it's steam thats how they roll they know we live in a world with people wanting everything straight away.

Is this version when bought for £9.99 left-hand drive edition?

I ask because I have this game on disc but is left hand drive and would like to have a steam edition but it would be incompatiable with my existing cities e.g. bus stops, subways etc. all planned and layed out.
Not to mention physiologically disturbing seeing cars drive on the wrong side of the road, lol.

I don't know what language it supports (I would guess all of them unless they got really lazy) but it is possible to set the language manually through the registry. See here.

I need some help...

I've set-up one area for residential + commercial and another area for dirty industry and power. However my residential area complains about lack of industry and vice versa. I've connected the two areas with a road and I'm even sharing power between the two areas but they won't move over! Driving me bloody mad and I remember why I stopped playing this :o This isn't rocket science, what the hell am I doing wrong?

Haven't played it in ages but have you made sure the industrial zones are light density and not agricultural?

Yeah man there's load of jobs being generated and I get messages like "Lack of homes in Blahblah". I can see freight going between the two areas but no one moves into the residential area. So gay...I'm gonna have to lump it all together like some noob.

Edit

OK I figured it out...they don't build houses on single squares :/
