Hiya Guys,

I have recentley purchased an old Ford.

It used to be a 1984 Ford Fiesta 1.0 Popular, but in the last year it has been sprayed a different colour, had a 2.0l Zetec fitted and had everything ripped out apart from its two front seats.

The DVLA hasnt been notified of the changes by its previous owners and it is still registered as a 1.0 Red Fiesta.

I want the car to be legitimate as it is in amazing condition due to it being rebuilt less than one year ago.

I know you need to put the changes on the V5 document once you receive it but do i need to provide any evidence of the engine change? Changing the colour and mentioning its only a two people vehicle is easy, but i just want to be kosher so i can insure it properly!

Thanks

As far as i'm aware, you'd have to take it to VOSA so they could do all the safety checks, emissions and such like in order to reclassify tax bands.

Be prepared to fork out some cash ;)

Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)

DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

  1. a receipt for the replacement engine
  2. written evidence from the manufacturer
  3. an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
  4. written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

Now then.... 1 & 2 don't apply so does that mean i have to take the car to a garage to have it checked over and written on letter headed paper its okay, or did the previous owner have to have that done?

Or do i get an inspection report? If so, how do i go about getting one?

you don't need to notify the DVLA about the lack of seats/stripped out internals. You do need to notify your insurance about all of the mods and this can be done before you notify the DVLA.

I have an engineers report from a garage for my Series 3 Land Rover that I fitted a V8 into which I will be sending off with the V5 to the DVLA.

The colour change is a simple matter of filling in the relevant section on the V5.

iirc you dont need the engineers report or suchlike to increase engine size its only if your decreasing
