Tube strikes anyone affected?

Because they don't want people to die? And how else can they show their dismay at a below inflation wage rise in a sector like the fire service? Write a strongly worded letter saying how upset they are?

Well they wanted a salary 3x that of a private in the armed forces.

And there were (maybe more now) about 40 applicants for every firefighter's job advertised... so yeah, the pay can't be that bad ;)

Citations? I'm not your servant.

Means tested wages against a completely different service in a completely different role. Why? What benefit would that bring? You bang on about how it's terrible they strike putting life in danger so inferior Army personnel with no experience with civil firefighting, but on the other hand suggest that they should be left to go elsewhere and then we should then pay to train new inferior firefighters?

"A spokesman at the Carmarthen Joint Operation Control Centre said retained firefighters - who are not striking - also attended the incident shortly after the RAF personnel.

A number of striking firefighters in the town also crossed their own picket line to try and assist in the rescue."

"In Lancashire striking crews in Skelmersdale left the picket line to attend a chip pan fire.

They were there several minutes before the military arrived in Green Goddesses.

It has now been decided that all stations where FBU members are on strike, will be told of incidents where life is thought to be in danger.

Elsewhere on Friday night, striking firefighters temporarily suspended their action to deal with a serious road accident in Southampton.

Six firefighters from Highton left the picket line in a red engine to deal with a head-on collision between two cars in Bubb Lane, West End."

"Striking firefighters left their picket lines to help the military crews who attended the blaze, which is being treated as suspicious."

Criminal.

After having a quick scan of those links and quoting some extracts, I can't see where you're coming from in calling them criminals. Would the lives of people been killed been saved by the fire service not being on strike? You cannot possibly know. But people die all the time in fires even when they're not on strike - which has happened twice in the entire history of the fire service?

It was hard work cycling to work today. The A11 all the way from Stratford to Aldgate was one big long car park. The drivers were pretty much well behaved, other cyclists and the peds should have known better though...

- Wobbling suit wearing idiots riding on boris bikes without helmets
- Stopping at a red light only for other cyclists to undertake and ride through
- A bus caught in traffic indicated left as it was approaching a bus stop but a cyclist tried to pass through the gap between the bus and the road and was caught. I hung well behind so I could overtake. He should have done the same!
- Peds stepping out in front of me without looking - very dangerous!

There was some union idiot on LBC yesterday (can't remember his name, not Bob Crow the other Northern Irish one) and when asked if he thought he had public support he said "I don't care what middle class people think". He also went on a childish name calling rant.

What a fool!

He clearly doesn't travel on the Tube himself then, because it's certainly not just full of the middle classes, infact it's got every sector of society on it.

Also, if he is anything like Bob Crow, his wage is hardly a working class pittance...

Would have severely affected me getting from Hounslow East to Angel, but I'm fortunate where I could just work from home.

Have heard all sorts of stories over the day, from people just not getting there, taking 4 hours travel, having to walk from Kings Cross (The Northern Line IS running, but not stopping at all stations) to fights, accidents and all sorts.

Tomorrow morning, it'll be as if nothing happened.

Worst part was, I moved to London 7 weeks ago so I don't know my way around the area and had to ask and no one was a happy chap today... FML. FML indeed. Oh and I am moving today so I can't use the same route home as I'm going to another place.

meh, just walked to work, I could have actually got the bakerloo which was in a decent shape, but it gives a good excuse to be a little late for work :)

Didn't really effect me, I worked from home.

The unions shall not win, they are simply digging their own grave as more people find alternative ways to get to work or discover that remote working is a truly viable option.

They've already lost public support.
