Who do you think will bag the top album award this year?

Personally, I think it's a dead cert that The XX will win, but really want Biffy Clyro to win. Only Revolutions is a fantastic album, and IMO, is miles ahead of the other nominations.

I agree. Biffy are amazing!

I had heard The xx were the favourites but today I heard Paul Weller is a dead cert for it. :confused:

Mumford & Sons is the far superior album there. Biffy's isn't even their best album.

Probably Weller or The xx will win though.

The XX album really is something special, and i'd be surprised if it didn't win.

If it doesn't I think people will look back at it in a few years and think they were robbed!

The judges do tend to make some bizarre decisions though, so its a brave person that puts money on the outcome.

Sounds a bit dull to me. I'd rather Mumford won if it wasn't Biffy but neither seem that likely if the press is anything to go by.

Laura Marling or Mumford are my second favourites.

The XX in my opinion are okay, but they are far too over-rated. They're good - albeit a little downbeat - but the best thing of 2010? I really doubt that.

Being it's the Mercury, as has already been said; they'll no doubt go for the new face, so the smart money will be on the token jazz band or The XX. Personally, if that is the outcome, the whole thing is a farce.

Listen to their older stuff and it might click. Recently speaking though: Puzzle (album before current one) was namely dealing with the grief of Simon recently losing his mother. Folding Stars for example is a song Simon wrote because of the loss. Just listen to Machines to see how haunting a very simple song can be. Only Revolutions then, is one of respite and of finding himself again and of coming to terms. The line "Let's love death away." in The Captain alludes to this.

Biffy are a band that grow on you, and then are hard to shake. Only Revolutions is not my favourite album of theirs, but songs such as Bubbles, The Captain and The Mountain are just fantastic stand-alone.

I also rank them very, very highly in terms of live performance.

Listen to the acoustic cover of The Captain below in context of what I've just explained above. It's hauntingly beautiful.

Not a bad album, but Mumford and Biffy's are much better. But the Mercury has always been given to the up-and-coming bands. That way, it looks like the award played a part in that.

I don't get the weird Biffy Clyro cult, it seems you can't just like their music, but rather you have to have some odd deep connection with the band. For that reason, I'm out.

Ah never realised that.

I've never quite got Biffy Clyro. Listening to Puzzle now, it's not bad I just don't see what there is to love about it.

I know what you mean. I don't think I know anyone who just 'likes' Biffy.
