Can anyone help, I have a sound stutter/picture glitch during playback of .mkv's in MC 7x64 every 17 seconds. I have sharks codec installed+sharks 64 addon, also have core codec too. I am using Ati 4200 onboard gpu.

I had the same software setup on my main rig using ati 5800 that also caused the same problem, but when i added nvidia 9800gt for phys-x and enabled cuda through core codec I solved the stutter problem.

As I can't enable hardware acceleration with the onboard ati gpu, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and found a cure as I would like to avoid adding another nvidia card due to cost and more importantly noise as the pc is used in the bedroom.

Both pc's running W7 x64, Media Browser, both sharks codec.

i have the same problem with the nvidia ion.. only way around it i found was to use a player that you could enable hardware acceleration within.

VLC/MPC both work with no stutter, but I want to stick to MC as I can use the remote and it's so much easier to see whats on screen.

Have you considered the media browser plugin for MC, this allows an external player like VLC/MPC-HC to automatically launch in full screen and then return to MC when the move is closed/finished.

You have caught my attention there, I am using that just now, but I wasn't aware that MB could do that. I shall need to investigate into that later tonight when I get home from work. Thanks for the tip ginjaninja.

I had enough of shark7 in w7 64 as it messed up wmc in 64bit.
Instead i just install haali media splitter, ac3 filter, core-avc.
Core-avc works just as well if using cuda or not, i can even play 14 x 720p or 8 x 1080p without stutter all at the same time.

Virtually any player will do: wmplayer, media player classic are good ones.
Even 64bit wmc works great & dont break live hdtv with the above codecs.

8 x 1080p vids playing at same time with no stutter

The vids were 50% size so as to be able fit them all on screen, but makes no difference if 100% size anyway.
The video used is a 169mb sample in MKV DXVA, but ive never been able get DXVA work anyway.
Different videoes could have been used but you just end up thrashing the hard drive (even quad raid 0).
If you notice, only 3x Core-avc are actually using CUDA, probably due to a limitation somewhere, but even non CUDA playback looks the same.

Thx juno_first, this sorted my problem. I got rid of the shark codec and used halli x64, ac3 filter, core-avc and it's all working now.

I thought I would try this in my main rig, q6600 @ 3300, 8g mem, 5870+9800 hybrid physX. My 10x1080's were all showing as cuda being used, BUT not sure if it was actually doing any work as 9800 only had a 6% load.

Ahh glad you've sorted the playback.
Impressive how you can play 10 vids.
The differences between your rig & mine is mainly 2 graphics cards, so im going see what my gpu load is later. very interesting...
I suppose playing 10 vids at once sounds daft, but i think its a good indication of overall pc speed.

Oh, the AC3 filter cant handle DTS HDMA audio, but the media player classic in-built decoder can, once you've set it to 3 front + 2 R speakers.

Ive yet to find a way of thumbnailing MKV's withough breaking the above codecs with Shark7 or DivX Windows Media codec.

I have twin display set-up.
1st on syncmaster P2450 using 5870 for rendering.
2nd on 37" samsung 1080 using 9800 for rendering +cuda for coreavc/physX for games.
So I had 7 vids on 1st and other 3 on 2nd.

Yes it does sound daft, but at work today when I was checking this post, my colleagues asked me what my screenshot was all about!
When I told them that it was 10*1080 movies playing at once I got these responces    to my :D

Caught my interest too!!... Never knew you could do this!!.. I've been having stuttering problems with Vista-MediaCenter (see sig for rig) so I've been using VLC the old fashioned way!... might give this a go over the weekend!!..:cool:

Simian, I once managed play 720p perfect on an old lapy: 1.6 single core, go 6100.
Id say your lapy vpu could easily manage 1080p.
Is Vista running anything in the background?

Apart from Avast and AnyDVD-HD its not running a great deal else!..

I've the Shark7 Codecs (and the 64bit extras) and its still stutters!... but using VLC or MPC-HC its as smooooth as a baby's bum!!..

and Blu-ray's play at 1080p (the screen native res) with no probs again very smoothly!!..

I am looking to upgrade to Win7 (HP or Pro) 64bit as soon as I can afford it!!.. maybe that'll sort the 'Curse of Vista' :D
