Hey guys,

Still been playing around with the right componants on what to get but almost narrowed it down with a few tweaks here and there.

One of the parts that i just can't seem to decide is the CPU cooler.

I've never overclocked before but would like too but as im new i would like to have a very good cooler to compensate.

I've been reading around and I really like the Noctua DH14, Coolermaster V10 and the Corsair H70.

Money is no real issue as with the rest of my system il still come under budget.

Any advice or criticisms would be helpful.

Thanks

Mem

ive just seen the fenrir evo has just become available on OcUK.

Anyone had any hands on experience with this cooler and if so, how does it compare to other high end cpu air coolers?

Mehmet

I'm using the Noctua NH-D14, excellent cooler. Haven't tried the others

Just make sure it will fit in the case you choose, and it will also probably hang over your first ram slots - so no ram with high heat sinks.

Also, in my Antec 1200 case I cant get the case side fan on, as the cooler just blocks it.

Thanks for the reply all :)

Im gonna be using the coolermaster HAF x case and i also purchased the corsair dominator RAM on the daily offer but when the heatsinks are removed from the top they can fit below most CPU coolers (mainly thining of the Noctua) and i believe the HAF X can accomodate pretty much any cooler mentioned?

Aye, thats a massive case and should be fine for basically all air coolers.

If you go for the megahalems then you should be able to get away with not removing the RAM heatsinks, however with the Noctua DH14 they will almost certainly get in the way.

Yeah i was reading the RAM compatibility, only way to have the dominator in there is to remove the heatsinks so at least its not a total loss but a bit annoying.

How do you attach fans to the megahalems? some bracket to attach? also just read that it only has Intel brackets, the build im doing has an AMD x6. Is there a seperate bracket i can order for it if i decide megahalem?

Thanks again for the replies all :)

Mehmet

Aye, the standard megahalems just comes with intel brackets, but you can purchase an AMD bracket which works well.

As for the fans, one set of clips comes with the cooler - but if you want to add a second fan (for push-pull) you will need to get an extra set of clips. The standard clips are for standard 25mm thickness fans, but if you want to use less common 38mm thickness fans, then use these clips.

Edit: As skid34 points out below, the Megahalems rev B does indeed come with two sets of fan clips for 25mm thickness fans.

Thanks for the replies.

what is the maximum safe overclock i can do with the megahalem push pull config on a 1090T? (will save me having to start a new thread :P)

+1

Out of interest, what will you be using the 1090T for?

As im gonna be starting a Computer Science for Games degree in september and while I have the money, I want to build as much of what can be called a "future proof" system that I can (although i know technology changes so quickly that that statement is almost false.)

I wanted the 6 core so that it can more then supply the needs of my course (although not entirely sure what that is in detail just yet).
