Hello all.

Basically I am going for my second year at the university, and this year I'll be staying in a normal house and not in campus. So, with my roommate we will be buying a big screen TV and we were thinking for some home theater speakers.
Then i thought about my Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1, which I have at home not being used at all because of me not being at home.

The problem is that if I select to use these instead of buying a home theater speaker system, i will need something to output the sound to the speakers. Something like a connector that from an HDMI goes to the analog connection of the speakers. Can you recommend anything, a soundcard perhaps or do I need to buy an amplifier? If so, what do you recommend? Keep in mind that I am doing this to save some money, so the cheaper the better.

Also another question. Do these speakers still qualify as any good in terms of quality of sound?

Standalone devices that will convert HDMI audio into 7.1 analogue exist but are ridiculously expensive compared to even highend soundcards.
The cheapest device I've found is called a HDMI repeater which is a complete waste of money at £113 when a £15 external sound card can do the same.
The manufacturers website isn't even working which suggests how useless it is. There is next to zero information on how to use the Gigaworks with HDMI audio so I wouldn't bother searching anywhere.

Well basically I was looking at some of Creative's DTS decoders that are supposed to be a perfect match with these speakers but none is sold atm.

Well I guess I'm gonna leave them to dust and get myself a new Home Cinema Speaker system :(
