banks used to always try and charge me during my early 20's when i was not so great with cash, today i complained about having my card cancelled for no reason and added at the bottom "I'm charging you in true bank style £30 for wasting my time" i had a phone call and the £30 paid in... very pleased and thought i would share the love... you're all invited around for milk and cookies

to be fair, i wormed my way out of at least 15 charges over my time with them, so if they had said to me "Mr Little, come on let us off one, be fair" i would have agreed, :D

Yeah banks are always messing me around now, hopefully if I'm lucky enough to land a position in a law firm when I finish school then I'm very looking forward to treat them like dirt and talk down to them like they do to students/young people.

one of my colleagues had her overdraft stopped for no reason, complained got it back and was credited £20 for her troubles

I work for a large building society, this is a pretty regular occurrence. Having worked on a complaints team as temporary staff we were able to offer up to £100 for really simple complaints. Complain a lot and you will receive gifts and money. In the hope that you will shut up and not take it further.

My card was randomly cancelled a while, no change in habits, nothing funny in my account. They just gave me the 'off the card' comment about having to change it for security reasons.

My colleague's debit card was cancelled by Barclays a few weeks ago. They told him it was a 'suspicious' transaction. Upon further enquiries they let slip this was use of the american version of 'the rainforest store' after midnight.

Noticed i'd gone overdrawn about a month ago on my Nationwide account, promptly went online and set up a £50 agreed overdraft. Sorted.

Got my statement today, got a £20 charge slapped on for having an unauthorised overdraft, which then put me over my authorised overdraft limit. Gave them a ring and the gent said he's put through a request for it to be removed, he said just make sure I put some doller in my account sharpish and all should be cool!

Hope it comes off, hate bank charges!

Quite a few years ago I called my then bank on a Saturday morning and asked them to arrange for me to pick up some cash at a branch as I was wating for a new card (after losing it). They arranged it, told me which branch to go to and when I got there and the arranged time it was closed and didn't open on Saturday at all. Called bank for a rant - received apology. A couple of days later very nice bottle of champagne arrived for me.

But good skills on imposing the fine yourself!
