Derren Brown - 08/09/10

Like I said, thought not :).

"I am often dishonest in my techniques, but always honest about my dishonesty. As I say in each show, 'I mix magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship'. I happily admit cheating, as it's all part of the game. I hope some of the fun for the viewer comes from not knowing what's real and what isn't. I am an entertainer first and foremost, and I am careful not to cross any moral line that would take me into manipulating people's real-life decisions or belief systems."

Everything may not be exactally as it seems on the show there will be some clever editing, but anyone who thinks that guy and his family faked this whole thing are seriously dumb. Derren has not once been shown to use stooges.

"Always honest about my dishonesty." Which he has demonstrated on several of his shows.

I think we need a new series of 'Derren Brown Investigates', starting with him investigating himself.

What a load of rubbish this was. Top trending topic on Twitter too and seems nobody liked it.

Just started watching this on C4+1 Dear lord, I am greatly disappointed.

I was hoping for something clever, but this is just so retarded it's unbelievable.

So bloody fake. He's a bigger bull******* than these spiritualist mediums and healers he tarnished in his last show.

I like how that quote conveniently misses out the "At no point are stooges or actors [unless said otherwise, obviously] used".

Just watch his early work if you think every single person he's ever tried a trick on is an actor in on it all.

Lol, i feel like a parent telling their kid Father Christmas isnt real...

So you think that a man who claims to have no psychic or magic ability can just hypnotize someone instantly using just his hands whilst they walk towards a cockpit? Dream on.

Um, why was it dark when he 'landed' the plane and light when he was walking to the cockpit? Oh yeah, because the sky in the sim wouldn't look convincing, or the ground probably.

I haven't watched this yet but that train track runs right next to my parents house, they filmed that part the Saturday before last - infact, my Dad was letting the production crew onto the train line.

It's a shame I thought it was just for a random train TV show otherwise I'd have paid more attention :(. I did wonder why they were filming someone lying on the track and getting up quickly when the train got near them mind.

I was stood here - that shadow you can only just make out in this snapshot might actually be me (our house is just to the left.. infact I'm sat a few feet away from there right now) watching them for a while and taking a couple of photos- shame I never bought a longer zoom lens tough!-

Since when is hypnotism magic or psychic? And what does your reply have to do with what I said at all?

I was looking forward to this and am so disappointed. I rarely use the word bs but i said it so many times during that.

Does he really think anyone will believe that? What a joker!

The thing that makes it so obvious is that flight simulator. Although it is pretty much exactly like the real thing, physics-wise, etc, the graphics are not at all photo-realistic for goodness sake. One look at the airport terminal building, any light source, or draw distance and it'll become completely obvious they're computer graphics. And also, isn't it bloody obvious that you're staring at computer monitors when your eyes are focussing so near.

I'm deeply saddened that there are many naive people who will believe this nonsense.

But earlier you said this -

So bloody fake. He's a bigger bull******* than these spiritualist mediums and healers he tarnished in his last show.

That makes it sound as though you believe his POWERS are real when he tells you over and over he is a bull******.

Well I'm going to happily go against the grain.
I've watched with interest over the past couple of years as suddenly it becomes fashionable to bash Mr. Brown.
I'm not entirely sure why, but it usually happens when people get jealous or cannot udnerstand something.
It's beyhound their own scope of understanding - so it must be bad, it must be fake, there must be something going wrong.

You know, in times of old witches were burnt because people didn't understand what was going on.

So what we saw yesterday was another series of suggestion that allowed somebody to empower themselves.
I can't see why anyone would consider it all to be a setup - there would be no point to the program.
And where exactly was the set-up - what exactly gives you that impression, I certainly didn't see anything.
Each "event" that the person went through played totally on his sub-concious.
From the robbery at the petrol station where he was told that he was a "nobody , who had done nothing with his life" to feeling real fear etc.

Unless anybody here has some kind of PHD in how the mind works I'm afraid I refuse to take your "expert" opinion etc on how easy or not easy it is to hypnotise somebody.
Come here with some facts - and some qualifications to backup these amazing "facts" and maybe I can start to take some of those posts seriously.
What is a known fact is that some people are more suggestable and people in a hgihtened emotional state are easier to hypnotise - bith demonstrated last night.

Sure the flight simulator looks like a flight simulator, but you were not there.
Now many people on these forums are pilots?
How many people on these forums have sat in a Boing cockpit during flight?
You wouldn't know 100% what you were seeing wasn't the real thing.
As far as you are concerned you were on a plane and suddenly you were in the cockpit.
You wouldn't just sit there and say "Hay, that doesn't look quite real" - you've got nothing else to base that assumption on.
Yet at the same time, potentially you've got the lives of 30 odd people in your hands.

If anyone here has been to see Mr. Brown live then they will know very well that stooges and actors are not used.
Yet for some reason people feel he will risk his own integrity by using such people on his television show - why?

All in all I enjoyed the show.
It took somebody, a nobody and empowered him.
Through suggestion his live has now chaged, for the better and he will be a better person for it.

And of course, you've obviously flown in many a Boeing and have also sat in that exact simulator.

Oh, wait...

Chances are he did think it looked odd, but considering he's never been in even a vaguely similar situation before, realistically has no idea what a "real" Boeing cockpit or view from looks like, has enough adrenaline pumping round his body to fill a Red Bull factory and was hypnotised moments before and so is most probably slightly drowsy, is it not hard to believe that he probably ignored those signs seeing as, in his mind, he IS on a plane and the guy next to him IS dying.

Similar to the quote in Inception: odd occurrences in dreams only seem odd afterwards, at the time they seem perfectly normal. He was probably in a state as close to dreaming as you can get without actually being face down on the floor.

I think people are missing the point of the show. It's very easy to shout "LOLFAKE" sat on your sofa at home - totally different actually being the guy involved.
