2. DVD / Chrono Crusade Bargain Bundle (Hyb) - £14.70 - too much of a bargain to turn down and it was on my want list, surprisingly never seen it :s
SPECIAL
3. DVD / Submarine 707r Mission 1 & 2 (Hyb) - £5.25 - not sure if I'll like it but for 5 quid no loss either way.
SPECIAL
4. DVD / Utawarerumono Bargain Bundle (Hyb) - £11.88 - worth the money, half the price on rainforest.
SPECIAL
5. DVD / Elfen Lied Bargain Bundle (Hyb) - £12.50
SPECIAL
Then got stung for 12 quid in postageI'm so not used to paying for postage with the rainforest, luckily the savings on utawarerumono alone covered that cost
Now it's just a case of seeing if they're in stock I suppose.
Some good stuff there, if it says that it's available for immediate delivery then it's normally in stock otherwise you are looking (normally) 7-10 days as they will get it in from their supplier. But I still think my theory holds that the bargin bundles are clearing out the warehouse as I'm pretty sure that ADV UK released some of these series.
Hopefully you get a good copy of Submarine 707R ... I like it but I had to get several copies (from various sources, it was a while ago) before I got one which played properly.
I've recently been looking at getting some older anime that i never bought on DVD in Blu ray format, but my god it's not easy. I always knew that in the UK and Europe as a whole got the short end of the stick when it came to releases, but it feels like it's getting worse.
Samurai Champloo doesn't seem like it's ever going to get released here and the USA Blu Ray is locked to region A.
Claymore Blu ray is apparently region B compatible, so that's great.
FLCL should get out in USA towards the end of the year, but no idea on region lock yet.
Beck, i don't think the full series has even been released on DVD here, let alone Blu ray.
Anyone that has these on Blu Ray? Are they much of an upgrade or should i just stick to DVD?
I just don't get why the new Blu Ray releases can't be left without any region locks. It's totally optional now for the companies, it means we can be happy with importing and it costs nothing extra to produce.
Whilst it may be optional to the companies from a format point of view it probably isn't optional from a licensing point of view for the title in question. The rights owner in some cases probably want's to be able to sell the license again for Europe so their US licensing deal may have a stipulation that the disks be locked to that region. These are, of course, the same sorts of rights holders who are still blocking the release of 5cm/s on blu-ray at all, fearing reverse importing into Japan, despite it being released on blu-ray there over two years ago, (in fact by the time the new UK release comes out it will be almost three years ago).
Last I heard the Samurai Champaloo blu-ray release wasn't great to be honest, (I have the DVD release and currently have no plans to upgrade at the moment).
FLCL and Beck haven't had any solicitations for blu-ray releases (in the US) for the rest of this year with, for the most part, only November and December unsolicited yet ... in fact I wouldn't expect Beck to be solicited on blu-ray in the US yet anyway as the Japanese blu-ray boxset only came out late last month.
Blu-ray is still a fairly new format and it is still quite expensive (apparently) to author and replicate. Multi-region blu-ray players for the win really

edit: Werewolf; yes Aus is Region B too.
