think I'll be following suit

Edit: followed suit then added a couple more on for good measure lol, should all be uk versions too :)

1. DVD / Burst Angel Bargain Bundle (Hyb) - £21.00 - thought it was about time I actually bought it (*cough*) lol
SPECIAL
2. DVD / Chrono Crusade Bargain Bundle (Hyb) - £14.70 - too much of a bargain to turn down and it was on my want list, surprisingly never seen it :s
SPECIAL
3. DVD / Submarine 707r Mission 1 & 2 (Hyb) - £5.25 - not sure if I'll like it but for 5 quid no loss either way.
SPECIAL
4. DVD / Utawarerumono Bargain Bundle (Hyb) - £11.88 - worth the money, half the price on rainforest.
SPECIAL
5. DVD / Elfen Lied Bargain Bundle (Hyb) - £12.50
SPECIAL

Then got stung for 12 quid in postage :( I'm so not used to paying for postage with the rainforest, luckily the savings on utawarerumono alone covered that cost :)

Now it's just a case of seeing if they're in stock I suppose.

Some good stuff there, if it says that it's available for immediate delivery then it's normally in stock otherwise you are looking (normally) 7-10 days as they will get it in from their supplier. But I still think my theory holds that the bargin bundles are clearing out the warehouse as I'm pretty sure that ADV UK released some of these series.

Hopefully you get a good copy of Submarine 707R ... I like it but I had to get several copies (from various sources, it was a while ago) before I got one which played properly.

I've recently been looking at getting some older anime that i never bought on DVD in Blu ray format, but my god it's not easy. I always knew that in the UK and Europe as a whole got the short end of the stick when it came to releases, but it feels like it's getting worse.

Samurai Champloo doesn't seem like it's ever going to get released here and the USA Blu Ray is locked to region A.
Claymore Blu ray is apparently region B compatible, so that's great.
FLCL should get out in USA towards the end of the year, but no idea on region lock yet.
Beck, i don't think the full series has even been released on DVD here, let alone Blu ray.

Anyone that has these on Blu Ray? Are they much of an upgrade or should i just stick to DVD?

I just don't get why the new Blu Ray releases can't be left without any region locks. It's totally optional now for the companies, it means we can be happy with importing and it costs nothing extra to produce.

Whilst it may be optional to the companies from a format point of view it probably isn't optional from a licensing point of view for the title in question. The rights owner in some cases probably want's to be able to sell the license again for Europe so their US licensing deal may have a stipulation that the disks be locked to that region. These are, of course, the same sorts of rights holders who are still blocking the release of 5cm/s on blu-ray at all, fearing reverse importing into Japan, despite it being released on blu-ray there over two years ago, (in fact by the time the new UK release comes out it will be almost three years ago).

Last I heard the Samurai Champaloo blu-ray release wasn't great to be honest, (I have the DVD release and currently have no plans to upgrade at the moment).

FLCL and Beck haven't had any solicitations for blu-ray releases (in the US) for the rest of this year with, for the most part, only November and December unsolicited yet ... in fact I wouldn't expect Beck to be solicited on blu-ray in the US yet anyway as the Japanese blu-ray boxset only came out late last month.

Blu-ray is still a fairly new format and it is still quite expensive (apparently) to author and replicate. Multi-region blu-ray players for the win really ;) but I still expect to be buying things on DVD for quite some time yet.

edit: Werewolf; yes Aus is Region B too.

I've seen all but crono crusade, elfen lied and submarine 707r via *cough* other means and had been intending to buy them but they were a little on the pricey side (no way am I paying 20 quid for 3-4 episodes) and was waiting on the lower price :)

As to the pricing I'd say you're probably right, most of the prices look about the usual 'box set' prices so can't go a miss either way :)

hopefully, can't say I've had any serious issues with dvd's (think I've had 1 single sub line off the screen in something although that could have been the dvd player).

How awesome is codegeass and r2. Just when things are going one way they turn, its fantastic watching. :)

Im nearing the end of r2 now so i have also come here to ask. Is their any similar anime. I find deathnote very similar in storytelling and i crave more of this stuff. So if anyone has any recommendations that is like code geass and deathnote storytelling let me know. :)

can't say I was overly keen on code geass series 1, but second season seemed better.

As to suggestions, it might be worth looking at these,
persona trinity soul
darker than black
kurozuka
pandora hearts
phantom, requiem for the phantom.

I've also just watched the first 2 ova's of broken/break blade. Seemed ok, obviously there were mecha but the plot seemed a little more in depth and maybe more towards tales of the abyss, that type of series.

I found R2 kind of disappointing especially due to the whole "reset" nature of it at the beginning, and the toned down violence overall compared to the first series.

It did get much better on the second half (The typical grand final battle stuff from Sunrise), though I do think it also felt a little too rushed and some important elements were left unexplained or not clearly defined. The history and powers of the Geass and the family wars can be a total mind**** too.

The series overall could have been better, but I still enjoyed it. Everything from the over-the-top opera-style acting, alternate world setting, Lelouch just being pure win, and the epic nature of the music.

So I guess saying Death Note being similar in storytelling is probably due to the "Intellectual" nature and thinking of the main characters, and some total mind**** surprises in the overall plot? I mean both Lelouch and Light are pretty damn smart and quite sadistic at the same time. Their maniacal laughs are funny to hear too, though in this case I am referring more to their Japanese voices.

Unfortunately I can't seem to think of anything similar to recommend though. lsg1r's suggestions are quite good as they mostly fall into the mystery and supernatural genres, so some good "thinking stuff" there if that's what you like.

Damnnnnnn. I've been waiting to get a copy of Elfen Lied and it'd be nice to have a copy of cc for that ending. And I wanted to build my HTPC!

Andi - the reason you probably got deus ex feeling is because zero is based on a book series, and if you are talking about what I think you are, it is not exposed straight away but becomes a key story in the novels later. Kinda like vampiric Tsukune for the rosario and vampire manga. Am half tempted to read the books actually, they are meant to be decent.

Not really the same kind of show at all, but more of insane Lelouch maniacal laughing and ecchi to boot:

trust me thats completely different, it's more comedy than anything else. Yes 'lelouch' is in it (the character portrayal is very similar) but that's about it. There's not even a real definable plot in the first 6-10 episodes.

Yeah not really the same thing but "Lelouch" as a robotic A.I eye thingy is funny. I never really finished Sora Kake because I pretty much forgotten about it at one point. Will need to finish it one day. Mechas and girls, and kind of Mai-Hime-esque seeing as it's by the same people.

Jun Fukuyama seems to be typecasted to play any sort of character who has something to do with their eyes of late, or in case of Sora KAke, is a damn eye lol. :D

Like for example, one show I am currently following now is "The Legend of the Legendary Heroes" where he plays the main character of Ryner, and he is quite powerful. Even has Lelouch's evil maniacal laugh too.

After watching Ergo proxy,Elfenlied and first 30 episodes of FMA:Brotherhood i'm wondering if I should continue to watch anime?I'm wondering if the series i mentioned aren't the top already,so the ones I'm planning on watching only can get worse :D

Ones that are still waiting for me are for example:Monster,Death Note,Ghost Hunt,WitchHunter Robin,Rosario and Vampire,Mnemosyne,Fairy Tail, and so forth...

Of course you should continue watching anime, plenty of good shows left. :)

From your list Monster and Death Note gets my seal of approval.

If your up for reading manga, I can recommend IDenTiTy(proper name: Yureka). Main plot revolves round a smart teenager character who plays a MMO game. Although I would read a chapter or two before dropping the £££'s on a volume because its a bit niche.

Back to HSDK :D

Nope, i tried getting a manga out before from library but its boring just reading plus i cant follow comics like manga i never know the right order of the speech bubbles :p

Anime, eng dub only im afraid. :( But this is what i enjoy immensely so. :)

Edit - Omg the ending was perfect for CG R2. I love this anime you think u know whats gona happen but never does its perfect watching material I NEED MORE!!!! as its all over with CG now. :( Even shed a tear a bit when xxx happens.

In anime, clever main characters are a niche I'm beginning to think, usually the it has to be a dumb anti protagonist that needs to think things through (about 4 to 5 mins) to figure it out and win.

Eden of the East? Its quite an intelligent anime.
