charged the bank £30 for wasting my time .... and they paid up

I imagine if you're a long standing customer with your wages going through the account, they'd try quite hard to make sure you don't leave.

Earlier this year I was declined a Santander Zero Card after they told me I had been accepted over the phone. A couple of weeks later I'd heard nothing so I rang up asking where my card was. They then told me I wasn't accepted blah blah blah.

Furious with this turnaround I wrote them a complaints letter and BAM! £30 in my account. All well and good but what I really wanted were the zero fees abroad.

Yeah banks are always messing me around now, hopefully if I'm lucky enough to land a position in a law firm when I finish school then I'm very looking forward to treat them like dirt and talk down to them like they do to students/young people.

One of my fondest memories is of going into the bank at Hull Uni where they used to routinely treat students as scum and teling them I'd like to change my title from Mr to Dr having just passed my PhD viva. In an instant I went from student to God-like in the way they treated me. It was hysterical.

That's £30 from my bonus gone then........

You'd be surprised how understanding and willing a bank can be by following the correct channels in the right manner. How many stories will you hear similar to the OP in comparison to people who spend beyond their means and incur charges. 1:100 or more maybe?

I've self-edited my response to this several times now.

Come on - tell us you're kidding. You are kidding, right? :)

The bank owe me a fortune then if i claim money for the amount of times they've wasted my time.

Roughly equivalent to having your entire house robbed and then feeling good because they brought back your toaster for you.

I have never been treated like student 'scum' by: Barclay's, HSBC and Natwest (Bolton, Manchester, Lancaster) for like 10yrs. In fact, all of them have treated me rather well, bar a little tiff with HSBC where they objected to me being overdrawn for 2yrs with zero payment. Woops.

Part of me feels students are either deliberately antagonistic, soft, and/or like to complain.

Banks are just greedy nowadays, unstandibly if you go into a unplanned overdraft you should get charged, but banks then put daily fees of up to 10 days which doesn't reflect the actual charge, and put people into more debt.
