Yes A Fool and his money are soon parted so they say, well im not looking to spend all my money on a computer and this is all theoretical for now, but i was thinking it might be nice to get a new computer, especially as this would mean id have a spare for if one broke and if i had someone come round, we could lan it up.

so ive heard that one of the things that are in at the moment is 6 core processors, which is a big leap from two years ago when i got my pc built, it cost £750 january 2008, 3.2ghz dual core, 8800gt, 4 gig ram, decent little motherboard and unfortunately windows vista.

so im thinking if i said, £1500 as my limit for my next build, ive already looked at some parts on here and they came to way below 1500 when i clocked them up, but im wondering what the forums say about these things...

i do however have a few rules about my system.

1) AMD processor without a doubt. (i know intel are "better" but its my money ill waste it how i want!)
2)Nvidia gfx card without a dobut. (bad bad experiences with ATI)
3)Geil Ram has served me well over the last few years so i think ill stick with that, the black dragon 1600mhz looks lovely.

so im thinking of a 6 core, 6gb ram, nvidia 460 gfx card (at least), obviously a decent motherboard, i did see a crosshair IV that looked nifty, but people will know what mobos will deliver the best results.

i have monitors already, a lot of them not being used either, so thats not a worry, what i will/may need is

mouse
keyboard
dvd drive
cpu
cooling (cpu fans and case fans)
case
a psu for my old pc (its currently got a 1000w psu so im thinking a 700w to swap with it for this new rig to use the 1000w one.)
gfx card
blu ray drive?! (will games and media switch over to this format in the near future? this is why i am skeptical, i havent needed one thus far!)
motherboard
ram
hard drive (may go for solid state this time around)

the main things i want to go for and dont care about the price of are the
motherboard, gfx card, cpu, ram, cpu cooler and case, i want what is best at the price range im thinking and the rest of the components can be cheaper!

 thanks for all ideas about builds you may have, the case has to be a decent one for air flow, my last case ive taken apart coz i got a lot of overheating issues (probably vista and poor quality supplier thus i had to buy new parts from ocuk!)

also im not good with the whole liquid cooling idea, ive never done it before so i dont know does the liquid need replacing at all, if so how regularly etc!

DUDE

that looks like such a good rig!

im still unsure as to whether to include blu ray, also should i go for a more expensive motherboard, im thinking of futureproofing most of all, but if theres nothing that can improve greatly through choosing a more expensive motherboard, i guess thats cool!
the crosshair looks good, although i dont currently use SLI and doubt id want to / need to with a 480 in the machine.

by the way why did i have an extra hard drive included (1Terrabyte one) is that for extra storage, like games and stuff?

other than that i think id change the ram to the giel 6 gig then thats about sorted! methinks

Guessing blu ray cant run a dvd either, so i will need to chose a dvd drive!

Meh I wouldn't bother with Blu-ray from a gaming/general use point of view. If your a film fan go for it.

I would switch out the Samsung HDD for a Western Digital or Hitachi. AND don't get the Crucial SSD as recommended above, for the same price you can get a OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB which has much better write speeds.

Any particular reason for the HDD change?

None of the AMD chipset AM3 motherboards support SLI. Most of them, including the one I suggested, will be able to hit 4GHz (or slightly higher if you're lucky). That one also includes SATA 6gb/s support so it's future proof in terms of SSD support.

Both Intel and AMD are releasing new sockets next year, AM3 CPUs will work in the new AM3+ motherboards, but AM3+ CPUs won't work in current AM3/AM2+ motherboards. So motherboardwise, there's no future proofing. Bare in mind motherboards with AMD chipsets can't do SLi anyway, only crossfire ;).
Yes, the 1tb is for storage. You can install games on the SSD which will be a better move.
Getting the triple channel kit will only run in single channel on the AMD motherboards, unless you keep one stick out. This will allow it to run in dual channel. Current AMD motherboards and CPUs don't support triple channel.
I have the same blu ray drive and it can play dvds as well, so no need to worry there.

Hahah okay thanks for all the info guys this helps a lot, gonna revise what ive just looked at!

im sure ive used SLI on my current motherboard before, maybe its coz its an ASUS and it supports intel aswell as AMD.

so get the cheap motherboard okay.

blu ray player will play dvds.

possibly switch out the hard drive for a different company (not hitachi sorry, WD ***)

so this ram channel stuff, say i wanted 8 gigabyte or 12 gigabyte ram, i wouldnt use this new triple channel coz the mobo wont support it ?
