Do I put my car back to standard?

I had to put my Skivvic back to standard due to lack of interest, but it worked out for the best because I got more money for it in the end than I would have if I sold it with mods.
 
Just sell it as a standard car, don't refer to previous modding, act dumb, "yeah it's nice car I look after it and wash it that's all"

I've seen a few adverts but mostly owners on car forums taking bits off the car to sell and then sell the car as standard. Personally a car that was modified then returned to standard is even less appealing to me.
 
Aslong as it had been done properly, I'd favour a modified car over buying a standard one and doing identical mods myself. Would save me both time and money!


I wouldn't have thought the average Astra VXR buyer would be put off by mods.
 
Im thinking the same thing Princey im going to view a Monaro :D:cool: on Saturday Part ex for my Impreza, there are a few bits i could take off but i dont know if i can be arsed to take them all off tbh. Cant wait tho to get the monaro :cool:
 
I would be much more interested in a standard car than a modded one, I wouldn't mention having it modded at all tbh. It could well put people off.

I would be tempted to put it back to standard, if it isn't selling. I take it you have it on Astra Sport, Migweb etc?
 
Take it back to standard and then do a new advert with different pictures and a different write up. People may recognise the ad and just might dismiss the car off-hand otherwise.

This sort of statement sounds silly but in reality is typical of the attitude of most people, even most modders I'd wager, buying someone elses car.

Someone who is selling a modded "normal" car (I'd exclude some Jap hypercars - e.g. Skylines, Supras, Evos, etc from this) will appear to your average layperson to be the sort of people who "drives spiritedly around" (aka boy racer). That may not be the case but that's going to be the automatic first impression. no one wants to think that the car they're potentially going to be buying has been ragged about, even if that's exactly what they intend to do when they buy it themselves!

For that reason I too would have reservations about buying a modded car, or one that has been "returned to standard". It makes no sense, but it is what it is.
 
People can only state what they would do

Personally i'd put it back to standard, sell the aftermarket parts but dont get it fixed to recoupe losses trading it in, lesson learnt Vauxhalls are poo.

For me, its not that its been modified in the first place that is the issue - Say I bought an Impreza, I'd have to budget several thousand pounds to carry out the mods I'd want (turbo, ECU, suspension, brakes). It would save me money to buy one thats had at least some of this already done.

My problem with cars being put back to standard is that unless its done properly its likely to do the car more harm than good and if your taking a car to bits in order to sell then odds are your not going to want to spend a fortune doing it so the car you end up selling is in a worse condition than when you decided to take it apart.

In this instance an exhaust and map is no big issue and really these days most people will do this as standard. Taking this off probably won't do much harm although I'd hope the OE map was properly performed.

Still taking off the zorst and map will not suddenly make the car several thousand pounds more expensive.
