Currently it's been stable at 4ghz @1.3v with a max temp of 85c on one of the cores in Intel Burntest(does this seem a bit high?) but the QPI link speed was set to auto, uncore and the QPI voltage so should these be adjusted?

I am using Gigabyte EX58-UD3R LGA1366 Motherboard too by the way with a D0 chip.

Well anyway it passed 5 tests at 1.3v but failed at 1.2925v/1.2875, what would roughly be a good QPI voltage to work around at this voltage settings/speed?is 1.34 ok?

For QPI link speed and uncore was both auto too but what would also be a good rough speed and voltage for these to work from?

Uncore clockspeed should be 2 x memory speed, for qpi link speed, try to stay below 8000MT/s. 1.35 is the max reccomended for qpi voltage, try lowering it a few notches, always testing to see what the minimum is you can get away with, im currently running mine at 1.3125.

It crashed with 1.34v and 1.36v QPI voltage maybe because this was too much, so should i try 1.3v? and then 1.28v if that crashes?

All chips are different and require different voltages for over clocking. Trial and error. I would recommend using a spare disk when overclocking until you find a stable speed. It's very easy to trash your OS.

Have fun

I've got it stable now at 1.28v(with 1.34v QPI but this can be adjusted still probably) however the temps are worrying me a bit or well i think they can be lowered 5c or so at least, they going 52-53c on all cores idle(my room is hot at the moment though) however if i play a new recent game the highest a core seems to go is about 70-72c so is this fine?

I am using Megahalems with 2 apaches though wondering if i should go for the Sharkoons 2000rpm fans now but think the noise will be too high.

The magic 4GHz significantly increases power consumption your going to draw at least another 100 watts at the sockets when loaded. This will be dumped directly out as heat hence the increase in temps.

Your loads temps sound about right.

What are the load temps like using an app like p95/IBT? Your correct in the assumption that the se 2000's will be loud, tried them myself and they only dropped my load temps by 1c, for a substantial gain in noise.

At those settings burntest hit 86c on 1 core max and others were 80-83.

Yeah i am aware of the cpu power draw differing a lot from stock also my QPI speed is 3.6ghz in cpu-z is this too much?

I am using 20x200 multi too, apparently Gigabyte boards are supposed to be 21x191 for better results and also 2 hours of Borderlands gave me 75c as highest temp on 1 core this is in a hot room though.

Edit: That was burntest on maximum too.

Temps seem a bit high for 4ghz, but then you say that your room is pretty hot. Qpi at 3.6ghz is grand. Regarding the multiplier, 20x is good as this allows you to run your ram at its rated speed. If you want to try lowering the temps, perhaps try remounting the cooler and maybe invest in more powerful fans. The akasa vipers are pretty good, basically a faster version of the apache, but the yellow blades are a bit iffy looking lol.

I just think it's mainly due to my room being hot usually it's around 25c probably nearing to 30 sometimes and also would the Vipers knock a few celcius off you think?

I had help from another OcUK member here in person with the overclocking, he told me to wait for the paste to settle in more and if it doesn't crash whilst gaming temps hit the 70s mark it should be fine though since burntest passed although i would like a little lower.(i've not fully tweaked the settings yet as he's more experienced than me....i am novice at this heh)

If i tried the QPI at 1.32v would that lower them a bit? i am very sure he's mounted the cooler properly and the right amount of paste.(he used a thin line in the middle using Arctic Silver 5)

25-30c is pretty warm so that would certainly raise temps, the vipers may drop temps a bit, by all means, try lowering the qpi voltage to see what the lowest you can get away with, the lower any voltage is the less heat generated.:)
