Personally I think this is entirely reasonable and a good thing for society. I hope we see some similar policies in shops, restaurants and other public establishments in the UK soon. However what about the counter-view, that parents don't have any control over their children? I also think that is wrong and if a parent can't control their kids then they have failed as a parent.

yea its ridiculous.... control your kids or stay at home loads of people treat restaraunts and even mcdonalds like its some kind of nursery with a meal

I can understand a new born baby crying because...well that's what they do, but when they're older and it's because of ignorant parents it gets on my nerves.
I like the sound of this, nothing worse than a screaming kid when you're out somewhere for a meal.

Having now read the article... fair enough for the restaurant. They can do business with whomever they like. This is no different to not being allowed in with jeans or trainers on.

It sucks for people who can control their already well behaved children (like my family) but there's plenty of other places available.

very slow DM news day it would seem.

It seems so. I'm surprised that they haven't suggested shooting the kids, the parents and anyone else making a noise. Oh and don’t forget the mobile phone users. A child cries, my god it’s not the end of the world. A slow news day it is.

Why would it suck for you? If your family are well behaved then you'd be fine visiting restaurants that enforce that policy.

Sometimes older kids get stroppy you know - and since they're children they're not exactly up for a bit of reasonable explanation why they should pipe down. Think of them like a forum user who gets the wrong end of the stick and has a bit of 'net-rage ;). Some parents are bad, other parents are trying to control a child who's having a bad day.

Of course, I agree totally with restaurants and pubs being able to select their customers and eject those who don't fit their profile. I don't have kids, and I don't smoke, but I'd love to see the above replicated across more eating places as there's plenty that seem to specialise in children friendly. I'd also love such establishments to be able to decide whether they allowed smoking for example, it should be a choice of the owner.

Good point. I suppose it would depend on whether they'll let people in and then just evict them if and when they start screaming, or whether they'll not even let you in in the first place.

Yeah i know what you mean by that, there's a bus stop in town that i sometimes use outside a McDonalds. It is always full of mums and kids and i can hear the racket through the plate glass windows. Its really bizarre. crèche for chavvy single mums . :D

It says that parents are invited to take their children outside to calm them down if they start misbehaving. It's only screaming children that aren't tolerated, not children in general ;)

Interestingly I remember reading the culture in Germany is that children are expected to be quiet, and they manage to achieve that in most circumstances.

I wish they'd make a policy like this for flying. I can deal with screaming kids in restaurants as it's not generally that quiet an environment anyway, but when I'm on a plane there is nothing worse than sitting next to young kids.

Very true, I had to ask several times for 'some woman' to stop her dirty little sprog from kicking the back of my seat.
