Just read this interesting article that my mate sent:

http://www.rmkhealth.co.uk/story/show/50

I have been leaning towards this thinking for a while now and have gone back to eating butter, eggs etc. We have a farm shop 200 yards from my house and get my local produce from there.

My Nana is 94 and has eaten your standard foods all her life, fried breakfasts, butter, lard, meat and 2 beg etc

My Uncle is 90 and still healthy and driving about. Eats simple foods etc. His son was slim and exercised but dropped dead of a heart attack a couple of years ago age 42.

Just makes you think about what you put in your body and if its all its cracked up to be!

Cholesterol is an area open to debate for sure. They have only recently admitted that the test for LDL is in fact wrong, as they have discovered there are 2 types (LDLa and LDLb). LDLa is small and does not as cause many issues, where as LDLb is large and does (that's simplified mind).

There is a new test that I am not sure is available everywhere, VAP I believe, that gives you a 'truer' reading.

This is all from memory so some facts may be wrong, but I think its right :)

Fats are an issue if you have them smothered on Carbs (ie pizza, breads etc) on their own they can be very good for you.

As always its moderation and balance, which a lot of people cannot adhere to. As well as the usual papers and their flavour of the month sweeping statements causing 'uproar'.

Enjoy your food and exercise ;)

The average age for medical doctors is about 55. So don't expect much from them or the "research" they do.
You do realise that some of the most highly-cited papers come from US researchers that would have been 'retired' by European counterpart institutions?

You are missing the point. I am not saying that they are useless when they are over 55. All am saying is that you can't expect help from people who failed to live longer than "average" people.

they don't all just die at 55 you know, they retie at 60 odd or earlier.

there is NO link between cholesterol and Heart disease, and if that doesn't cause you to gasp and run to your pitchfork, then how about this little nugget. There is NO link between Saturated fat and heart disease either.

This is just NOT true, the guy writting this is an idiot

just where are you getting your data from? We have to prise our medical researcher out the door @ 65 with them kicking and screaming

I think you'll find he has a Masters Diploma in nutrition.

I really hope not many people read that article, it's entirely counter-productive towards getting people to eat healthily.

Of course there is a link between fats and cholesterol and heart disease, where on earth does he get off claiming something so ridiculous as that being a lie?

I wish universities would stop giving people like this credibility by granting them degrees.

that article is basically a pack of lies - its funny how morons are so quick to believe any old crap if its printed on a website just because it contradicts the accepted scientific opinion, as if they, personally, have discovered that all these scientists and their 'evidence' are wrong, and that their unsubstantiated belief backed up by a crackpot on a website is right.

and i can point out many many people in their 90's who smoke 40 a day and are still alive, but that doesn't mean smoking is healthy - use your brain op.
