I've just got a new TV and I use the SteelSeries Adapter to use my PC Headphones on the Xbox 360.

But my new TV doesn't have a headphones socket.

Anyone know a way to plug my headphones in? An adapter of some sort?

I have just ordered the new xbox out, so I will be connecting via hdmi.

I don't think you can do it with HDMI without something like an amp, but using VGA or Component you could use one of these to connect the Red & White RCA audio wires to you're headphones using this aswell.

The First one is a RCA Y-Adapter (3.5mm)
The Second one is a 3.5mm Female to Female Adapter

They can both be picked up for a couple of quid each, (of course you would need a component or VGA cable aswell if you don't have one).

Ah thanks for that. I shall use this as a temporary solution.

I feared that it would have to be an amplifier if I want to play in HD.

If anyone does know of some sort of adapter that would allow me to play in HD and use my headphones that'd be great. New Xbox arrives in 3 weeks.

Or you could get hold of the break out box that way you could retain the hdmi output

You don't need HDMI to play in HD, VGA and Component can both output HD resolutions. I've just recently moved back to VGA from HDMI because I needed the optical output and there is pretty much no difference between the two visually.

Someone has just suggested this to me as possible solution. Please let me know what you think because I'm not 100% sure if it'd work.

Run the hdmi to the tv for video output.

Run the RCA cables from the xbox to a headphone amplifier for the sound.

Break the plastic surrounds off the VGA cable & you will be able to use Optical output & HDMI at the same time.

Not sure about using HDMI and the RCA output together because I've never tried it, but a headphone amp would be a waste of money, the 2 adapters I suggested would do the same thing for a lot less money. The only downside of my version would be you wouldn't be able to adjust the sound, but you can also get an adapter that would go inbetween the headphones and the Xbox that would let you adjust the volume, which again would probably be a couple of quid.

Tried it already, the HDMI cable is too fat. Plus there is zero difference between HDMI and VGA on my TV except for a 5% overscan that I'm not that bothered about.

Yeah the only reason the headphone amp was suggested was due to the lack of volume control. I do have volume control on my headphones but to my understanding this wouldn't work. Could you post a link to the volume control adapter your thinking of?

Thanks for all your help so far.

Why wouldn't the volume control on the headphones work? I could be wrong, but my understanding would be that if it's built into the headphones it would work no matter where the audio is coming from.

I was thinking along the lines of something like this:
http://www.t2retail.co.uk/Wired/In_Line_Volume_Control_adapter_For_headphones

You plug the headphones into that and then it has a dial on the wire to adjust the volume. I think it's called an In-line volume control adapter, it doesn't have to be that particular one it was just to give you an idea of what I mean.

Yeah it's the same thing that's already on my headphones. It was a tech friend that told me that it wouldn't work, I'll ask him to explain more when I see him later and I'll post up his explanation if I understand it :D.

I'll buy those 2 bits you suggested anyway and see how it goes. Thanks a lot for the help!

Check Ebay, I found those 2 bits for <£5 including postage, so even if it doesn't work out your only out of pocket by a couple of quid.

Well I've actually just spoken to a mate that is goin to take the back off my Tv and solder/drill a headphone socket for me!

Thats a bit extreme

Alrik - HDMI and component outputs make a huge difference on my gaming tv, on my tv in the lounge switching between the two makes no difference at all.
