Multipliers 9X versus 8X

What is best for a mild Q6600 overclock
Multiplier of X9 or X8
3.2 = 355 X 9 default multiplier
3.2 = 400 X 8

400*8 will allow you to run ram at 1:1

Higher fsb value is better.

So 8x400 is betterthan 9x355

Trouble is only running on Air - Zalman CNPS9700

Temps when just browsing are circa 50C,

That's rather bad...

It's at 3.0ghz now right? 50C is way too high, it should be 35C tops under those conditions. I'd reseat the cooler personally. :/

Sorry it's at 3.2 400X8

Core temp @ idle
core 0 = 49
core 1 = 47
core 2 = 46
core 3 = 46

Located in Spain ambient 30c

VID 1.2625

The CPU has only been installed for a few days, so I am hoping thermal paste (Arctic Silver) may bed in after a week or so.

was about to say its not necessarily bad, depends on ambient, a delta of 20c isnt anything to worry about

x8 is easier to sync up with RAM but which gives better performance is quite complex - higher FSB potentially gives more performance but then you have to take into account NB straps, RAM dividers, etc.

Maybe I need to get a better CPU cooler / fan, however the Zalman IS a bl__dy big unit so thought it would be pretty good......any recommendations.

Or I may try and add a fan to the side of my Coolmaster Wavemaster case.
