So me and some friends are going to rent a house in Bournemouth for 11 months. Being the only one knowing something about computers I get the lovely job with finding internet for the house. There are some problems.

1. I don't know the telephone number. The dim woman at the estate agents said she would get someone to call back for this.

2. I don't know the current internet provider. BT say on their site you need a MAC number to change providers.

3. I can't find a number to call. Since our contract is only 11 months I want to see if I can talk to them about an 11 month contract.

All help is appreciated. Even pancakes.

IDNET do rolling 30 day contracts, really miss them to be honest as they were superb. I'm in BT broadband as part of the vision package now.

IDNET aren't hugely cheap but the service you get is first class, reminds me of Nildram back in the day when they were a private company and not owned by a larger, rubbish one!

Depends if the existing people cancel the line, if they do you may get a different telephone number and the existing one put out of service. The place i moved into the previous tenant was the landlady, she didnt cancel the services and i contacted the provider to move details over to myself

2. I don't know the current internet provider. BT say on their site you need a MAC number to change providers.

Previous tenant should have cancelled the service, you would need a MAC Code to change from one provider to another but you should be ideally putting in a new order on a line clear of broadband

I doubt you will be able to get a 11 month contract, best you could do is a monthly rolling contract

Awesome. I spoke to my housemates and they said they didn't really mind about getting a 12 month contract. I'll give the estate agent another call to find out the telephone number. Hopefully I'll get the smart one who was useful. Thanks guys.

If the line is active then just call a mobile from it to see the number? If the line isn't activated and you have no other use for a phone line then check the virgin media site to see if they have services to your postcode. I've had Internet that way from virgin for 4 years. No phoneline, no TV package. JUST the internet. I would imagine in a house-share where people had their own mobiles, having a land-line would only cause arguments.
