Never liked the way Ali showed off though, a real hot-head.

Let us not forget though, Boxing is dead, MMA rules the roost of sports now.
I don't know but it gave me a brilliant idea for a film. We could input both fighters into a computer and then the computer would determine who was the greatest. Ali can then come out of retirement from his restraunt and him and tyson can have a epic fight. Ali will loose mind you as hes getting on abit but we will all remember how hes the people champ and love him even more.
I'd say Ali would win.
Foreman had a punch which was as powerful (if not more so) than Tysons, Ali took him on and went round after round against him. He used his movement and smarts to simply outwit and out play Foreman. Like some of the great boxers of today like the mayweathers and the pacmans, and before them jones jr, they excelled at not being beaten by following the mantra that you cant beat what you cant hit. Another thing to remember is that Ali could take a punch, something which I think many people forget.
I'd say that Ali would out smart him and wind Tyson out, its a classic style vs power fight and as we've seen many times in the past quite often the power player in those matches ends up losing to the smarter style boxer.
(I also actually think it would be a pretty awful and dull match to watch)
Ali might of been able to take a punch, but Tyson in his prime hit harder than anyone else in Ali's time. I dont think anyone could take a Tyson punch from his prime and stay standing.
Ali had the fight moved to Africa, where he knew Foreman's stamina wouldnt last.
Well, theres no real way for us to ever know, which is why its so debatable. Personally I disagree that Tyson hit harder than Foreman. I think that Foreman hit harder than Tyson myself.
Have you got a source for that? I was always under the impression that it was King who moved it to Africa, not Ali or Foreman.
People are mentioning taking a punch like Tyson only hit once!
he had fantastic speed and very powerful combinations. We arent talking a 1 punch wonder, he hit and hit and hit.
Sorry but Foremans punches(in the youtube vid) don't look anywhere near as ferocious or as hard or as fast as Tysons, nowhere near.
Yep id have to agree....Ali was much much quicker on his feet than Tyson ever was....
Exactly, I read a book on tyson where they had used video to show the speed of tyson in comparison and when they compared the footage, there was nothing in it. Either in handpseed or footspeed. I've always put it down to the quality of framerate in the old tv's as to why Ali looks faster.
I always preferred fraizer anyway, who if he hadn't been just about blind in one eye would have destroyed ali everytime.
He hit hard but nowhere near as fast.
He wasn't he just moved about more.
People say the fight would go to ali because of stamina but I don't believe that's true either. Even in the fights where Tyson was clearly having issues, like against Buster Douglas he took one hell of a beating before he was stopped. He could recover from punches well.
Tyson though will always be remembered for the shell of a fighter he was just before he self destructed.
Larry Holmes said once that the person to beat Tyson would be Mike Tyson. he was right. Tyson should have gone 70 fights underfeated, but he was way way too thick.
Tyson in his early 20's would beat anyone that has ever fought in the heavyweight division. He was properly managed coached and was a student of boxing. The fighter that left jail was a cash cow with no ability other than a punch left.
Well the dictator put up $10m of which Foreman would get $5m regardless of any fees, cuts, win or loss, therefore Ali wouldnt normally of signed to that sort of deal but he did because it was in Africa. Well thats how i see it, Ali was a former champion and his cut would have been considerably less than Foreman's, so I think that only reason he signed was because he knew he would be at an advantage. Otherwise he wouldnt of signed and tried to negotiate a better deal of which Foreman had already been promised $5m by King, so it wouldnt of happened then.
So it was a mix of everything, but i dont think Ali would have signed the fight for the same money if it was in America and would have waited for a better deal. So it was up to Ali whether or not to fight in Africa, all King/Foreman saw was the money and didnt care about anything else. Ali saw the advantage and took it. Otherwise the fight would have happened in the states.
So its actually an assumption on your part rather than a fact that "Ali had the fight moved to Africa"?
this whole thread is an assumption
