When ever i do a 5.1 sound test all the speakers work fine untill it gets to the sub woofer and it just plays through the centre speaker.
Ive had these speakers/soundcard for a few years togeather and this has allways happend. IS there anything i can do to change it? I allways thought it was some what normal but ive found questiosn on other forums sayign its not. Ive updated drivers etc but still the same thing. As i say ive had this a few years and they have gone through loads of reformat. WOuld u say its hardware based?

Speakers are Logitech X-540 and the soundcard is X-fi gamers edition (was around £100 when i bought it) Any ideas? :'( or were they faulty speakers?

Cheaper PC speaker sets like the X-540 often have circuitry to set their own bass crossover frequency across speakers and sub. It's because the satellites aren't full range so the sub covers bass, rather than sub-bass (which is really just tactile rather than auditory). That might be interfering with your settings.

You could try messing with the settings in X-Fi Control Centre. In speaker configuration go into bass management and have a fiddle with the 'enable bass redirection' and crossover frequency settings.

As I suspect that your speakers redirect the bass, or share some output between centre and sub, I wouldn't recommend leaving bass redirection on. It's more to give you an idea of what the speakers' internal circuitry is doing.

tbh i think its like u say. Its the cheaper speakers. im exspecting too much lol :( Ive messed around again but nothing has changed. I think its coming through the sub a little more than normal tho :D but still mostly the centre speaker. I guess im gunna have to fork out a bit more for a better quality of speaker lol ty much for your help :)

EDIT: actully... it does sound a lot better since i changed the crossover freq :D a lot clearer when listening to more vocal songs (musical soundtracks) ty vm :D Now i just have to work out why the two back sopeakers have stopped working during music playback -_- lol

If you want music upmixing, use enternainment mode and have a play with CMSS-3D.
