Hi guys,

I'm looking to start up a little cycling to go with the running I do several times a week and need a bit of advice on bike buying, because I'm struggling to get decent advice at the moment.

I'm planning on taking it around a lot of the tracks, paths and parks where I live so I'm taking it a mountain bike would be a better bet. Because this is more to support the running I do and for a bit of fun rather than for a full-blow biking hobby my budget is £200 absolute tops, though I'd prefer something cheaper if possible. The only consistent advice I'm getting at the moment is that full suspension bikes for <£200 are pants.

The only bike that fits this that I can get a decent review of is the Decathlon/B'Twin Rockrider 5.2. Would anyone have any other suggestions/hints/tips?

Thanks.

The main differences are the front suspension and the gears.

The suspension on the rockrider, is some no name nonsense that wont work, fair enough rock shox darts arent fantastic, but they work and theyre decent budget forks.

Shimano altus gears on the rockrider, shimano alivio on the vengeance, not a huge difference but it is one step up and you would probably notice the difference.

All in all the vengeance is just a better spec'd bike.

Forgot to check the new one today, was snowed under with work, will check it tomorrow.

What about this one ??

Looking at a new bike and saw this yesterday.. is that a good price ?

The Vulcan is OK, I ride one to and from work that I've added skinny tyres to for road work. Had awful trouble with the brakes, took them back to Halfrauds 3 times and they still weren't right - in the end I decided new parts would cost less than the petrol taking it to and from Halfords repeatedly!

I'd say the Vulcan isnt much (or any) of an upgrade over that Vengeance with the disk brakes, and for £250 that is a really good bike - hopefully the Shimano hydraulics shouldnt have anywhere near as many problems as my Tektro cable discs had.

Vengeance is still a better bike, I had a look at the new one, its currently 400 and will probably go half price to 200 sometime in October, its called the vengeance race.

Thanks, I'll have to keep an eye open for that. I feel like I'm learning to build computers again: I know I need a graphics card but I've no idea what's good and what isn't...
