Non-alcoholic wines

I can't relaly help you with the question at hand but I will say this. What ever you do, stay away from grape fruit juice! It is extreamly bad for your joints. My mum got cravings for it while preggers with my sister and it's contributed quite a lot to the really bad arthritis she gets said the doctor at least. Though as far as I can tell it had no effects on my sister.

As for the drink, I believe my mum had the occasional pint and that and we both turned out alright. Infact I believe she went into labour just after having a sip of guinness with me XD.

:EDIT:

I'm not saying you can't drink it at all but pregnant women get addictions to random food don't they and this is one you want to avoid getting addicted to!

200,000 years of human evolution is all the scientific evidence I need.
I had to look that up. For some reason I always thought we were only around 10,000 - 15,000 years old.. :o

I don't need some jumped up !@#$ in a white coat with a few letters after his name to tell me a bit of common sense and moderation is required. :p
Agreed. And all this hype about sanitising your house for baby is just as lame. No germs = no immune system. Let the kids eat worms! :D

edit: and to the OP, wine without alcohol is just grape juice, unless somehow they substitute with something artificial and nasty. To make alcohol, yeasties munch on the sugars and fart out carbon dioxide and alcohol. This is what reduces the sugar levels in wine. I don't think anything tasty is going to resemble proper wine.

You can always try sparkling grape juice instead, which is basically champagne without the alcohol. Shake it up to remove the bubbles, but it will still be very sweet.

What is this new age hippy **** about not eating this, not drinking that, while pregnant.
Don't understand it.
As long as you are not getting slaughtered every Friday night I'm dam sure a glass of wine with your meal now and again wont affect the little un.

It's all this nannying and ultra cleanliness that is making kids grow up with problems like Asthma and other allergic reactions IMO

While I'd partially agree that there is somewhat too much emphasis placed on the complete removal of certain foodstuffs from diets when moderation would do the risks of drinking alcohol when pregnant are well known so I can understand why cutting it out entirely is the safest option, particularly if you aren't sure where the point of "too much" comes.

Robbie G: it's nothing like non-alcoholic wine but a rather tasty sparkling soft drink that looks reasonably classy and goes well with meals is Amé - I'm hoping they still make it as I can't find it on Google. Purdey's is also quite nice, comes in a glass bottle with a silver wrapper. Both are/were made by Britvic I believe.

Firstly, congrats. :)

My missus became a bit of a Schloer addict last year when pregnant, although she would have the odd Guinness or a pear cider if we were out somewhere special (probably a couple a month). Are you getting a bigger car? ;)

Thanks :D. Feeling excited, tentative, disbelieving and proud all at the same time. Looking at another boring VAG - the Audi A6 Avant.

I know how wine / alcohol is made, but as far as I was aware, the difference between grape juice and alcohol-free wine, is that producers of alcohol-free wine is at least make some attempt to make it taste like normal wine :). You might be right about there not being much about that does this well, but I'm after the best effort in any case.

I'll look out for them, cheers.

I thought a small glass of wine (ie 125ml) was the max recommended amount by the NHS, indicating it's safe to drink a little?

NHS website says one or two units once or twice a week. We have dinner every day :p.

Robbie try http://www.alcoholfree.co.uk/

They have a selection of wines as well as other drinks that are de-alcoholised during production.

Yeah I saw that site when I 'Googled it noob'. Personal recommendations are always healthy but there's at least some more brands to try on there, thanks.

What's funny is that none of the bottles of alcohol-free wine are exactly cheap!

Sorry, bro. I'm in the US and a member of one of the best homebrew clubs in the world and am not sure I know of a way to do it right. :(

Let us know, of course, if you find something suitable! :)
