I'me looking into buying a gaming laptop but i have a question i hope somone can answer. What is the better card out of the 1GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon™ Mobility HD 5850 or the 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M.

Is the HD5870 a better card then the 260m GTX & 5850 . I'm looking to replace my home computer with a laptop and i've leaning towards MSI GX740 that has the HD5870. I like to play some games on the pc so i wanted something that won't struggle. I have a HD4870 card in my pc and would like to know how the laptop ones would measure up to the 4870 in my computer as that plays the games i like.

The 5870 is better thAn both the 260, and the 5850. From benchmarks I've seen, the 5850 is level with/a bit better than the 260, and the 5870 is above both. The 5870M is basically a desktop 5770 but at lower clock speeds (I could be wrong here though). So it will be comparable to the desktop 4870 hopefully.

Your best bet is to look up some benchmarks of the GX740 and see how it compares to your current computer.

If you do a search on that laptop, you'll find hundreds of threads about it. It's a very popular laptop, so you'll have no trouble finding information on it.
