Well, after some good advice I am now the proud owner of a 1.8 petrol 2003 mondeo :)

I'll get pics up when I get home but I do have a few questions. Basically I'd like to be able to do all minor servicing myself, typically what's involved in servicing a car? I'm pretty handy, just never bothered to learn about cars! If anyone has a schedule for it could you link/email me?

Also, I'd like to change discs and pads, as well as remove a bit of rust from the calipers and paint them. This a hard job?

ttyl,
David

As promised, a pic of my new baby, taken in much better weather!

Well if you want a guide on painting calipers then head on over to the DetailingWorld forum and go to their guides section and there is a nice guide there. I too am going to paint my calipers as there nice and rusty and need protecting. Just don't start reading any other parts of the forum or you'll do what I have and spend a small fortune on detailing kit, my wallet is not happy with me this morning lol :D

If oil is spewing out, it sounds fairly terminal! Gutted, it sounded like you spent a while trying to find that car

:(

Aren't cars wonderful things?

Good luck getting it resolved with the warranty.

The logical thing to do right now would be to blame OCuk for recommend it ;)

@bobert50, hell no, I loved it! Going to get another one if I can!

Just trying to get it together before I ring the guy. According to the mechanic who rescued me, it sounds like it blew a rod. Its beduggered methinks! It's outside the house now, is it the sellers responsibility to get it returned or do I have to sort that? Any other advice? Guy is a mechanic and although a private sale I have a dated receipt with the engine and gearbox expressly covered for 1 month against failure with his signature against it. Should I ask for a new engine or a refund. Do I even get a choice?

Eyeing up a replacement, 2.0 for nearly the same money, just hope this goes smoothly. I'm getting married in a week, don't have time to be mucking about with a car!

He gave you a warranty on a private sale? More fool him.

You don't have any rights other than what is on that receipt, unless he is really a trader and buying and selling for profit.

And it's ******.

Blew up today on the way home, bang, jump, loads of smoke, oil spewed out. I am not happy. Good job it's under warranty.

DannyW car sales?

Gutted, hopefully you don't have any issues with getting it sorted. Other half had the engine go on her car within a week of having it.
