Swiss army knife / leatherman tool

Have both a Leatherman Wave and a Gerber Suspension. Love them both. Leatherman has proper 3 inch blades, while the Gerber has sprung pliers!

Leatherman charge is what I have, very good quality tool.

This one is the alu model, but I did have the titanium model before but it went missing from my house . I'd recommend that model over this one as it had bolts for the pivots so you could take it apart to clean/replace broken tools etc.

They are expensive but the blade is made out of 154cm steel, which holds a decent edge. Every tool also locks into position, not sure if they do on the swiss army knife but this is a very important feature, if you like having your fingers attached to your hand!

I use a black Leatherman Surge with cap crimpers;

It's really nicely built. Very solid, with good pliers and very sharp knives. It is quite heavy due to its size and build, but if you use it a lot then it is worth it. One of the reasons I went for the Surge is due to it being a full size multi tool, so has bigger pliers and blades. The blades also fold out so that you can cut down on a surface (A lot of multi tools are arranged so that the knife edge doesn't touch the surface that the tool is sitting on.) And finally, it also includes a Bosch T-bar mount for the saw. This means that you can fit any bosch T-Bar fit tool to the leatherman, ie files, diamond blades, replacement saws etc.

It might be worth having a look on http://www.multitool.org/ to compare a few models. :)

I've always found leathermans hold a better edge on the blade, if you're looking at something with a knife. I've got a nice leatherman e300 for hiking and general things.

I've got both, the swiss army is a good carry around every day, I have the cybertool which is more handy for my use needs, the leatherman is a bit bulkier and I take it fishing / camping / shooting

Another vote for the Leatherman Wave.

I've had mine about 10 years now, used it round the house, office, car and chopped a few (small) trees down, and it's still looking brand new.

You pay more than other brands but it's worth it

I'd say buy Both, Swiss army because its just a classic handy tool to have. Leatherman because they are just a step up in strength and quality.

I own a Leatherman Blast and 3 different swiss army knives, just love the quality bits of kit.

I tend to buy male friends and family members swiss army knives as birthday, christmas presents, they are the kind of gift that lasts for years and always have a use.

Ive got a Leatherman PST that has quite literally been to war and back (took it to Iraq in the 1st gulf war 1991) and the thing is still going strong.

Here's mine. A leatherman surge tactical, purchased a few months ago after I lost my previous one. Brilliant bit of kit, well built with a set of blades you just need to treat kindly or else...

I hate to hijack a thread but this is the exact decision i'm having to make

I have had 3 Victorinox tools over the last 6+ years.
A USB 256MB thing which i crushed in a bike crash and 2 Victorinox Ramblers.
Both of which i have lost.

I'm tempted to get another Rambler as it's perfect as a light tool, the philips screw driver head fits most computer screws perfectly and the knife and scissors are always useful.

I'm now looking at the Leatherman Squirt PS4 as this has most of the things the Rambler has, plus pliers which would come in handy.

My main requirement is that it needs to fit in that little coin pocket on Jeans.

what other Victorinox/Leatherman tools would fit me needs around the £30-40 mark?

Tbh, they're too small/fiddly to be of any actual use (imo). Would rather just have a small toolkit

I live in a house, not some cave / jungle where I need a multi tool on me 24/7 :p
