To be fair, he has a reasonable expectation to be paid on time as per his contractual agreement. He is not self-employed or a contractor.
It has little to do with have a buffer or budgeting. If his contract had been honoured he would not have been in financial difficulty.
No, it's their not paying him that has ultimately caused the problem. They are in breach of contract, and are also probably guilty of the tort of negligence, as the OP has suffered loss that would not have occurred but for their failure to pay him on time.
Administrative errors occur all the time in payroll. Doesn't mean the company is about to go bust at all. All depends on the time of the BACS cut off which can be very late in the evening the day before payment is expected.
It doesn't take up to a month to sort out, or happen every month since January either if there is not an underlying financial problem.

And you'd be surprised how incompetent some payroll/finance departments can be. There could well be underlying reasons for the mistakes (recently outsourced amongst dozens of other operational possibilities inc. software issues), but it may not be all doom and gloom.

Maybe. But in all probability there is financial shenanigans afoot.

hence why this all happened just before payday. Going on your theory nobody would buy any luxuries just in case they don't get paid.

Our anniversary is on friday thats why i had to order it today. TBH i never even thought about not getting paid. At the end of the day its their problem. I go to work to get paid once a month on the day they say. Im sure theyd be angry if i said "Wellll... i dont fancy coming intoday..but ill tell you what, ill come in next saturday insted!" I cant afford a buffer right now All my wages since getting this job has gone on bills i racked up while i was at the I.T course. About 90% of it went on bills. This was the first time I had any money to spend on my self in MONTHS! The nearest thing i had was a SSD a few weeks back which was bought for me as a gift. (i ended up selling it tho but shh lol) and that money was used to buy this gift for my g/f and my self.
Also to the guy who said "its your problem for living on the edge of means" Who in this world hasnt?Your forced to sometimes,we arnt all earning £30,000 a year. How is that my fault anyway :/ as far as i was concered i was going to get £900+ today.

well maybe you shouldnt blow all your money on stuff you dont really need.
looking at the spec of your pc, im guessing that cost you a fair whack? im also guessing you bought it first hand, when theres real bargains to be had in the members market or ebay and could have easily saved a lot of money.
you can always save money, if you cant then your in the wrong job or wrong accommodation or you dont know how to spend. hopefully this will teach you a lesson on saving.

you have a £300 graphics card, yet get paid £900ish a month.
i'll let you figure out why your broke all the time
lloyds messed up their bulk payments last week, meaning my gf 2 bosses had to go and withdraw £40000 from the bank to pay the wages into the respective banks. CHAPS payments are £20 a pop and that is lot of cash! Mistakes do happen, but every month points to a serious problem!
